Do you have facebook installed?

Mine was the same as yours. Great when I got it, but over time its become slower and slower. So I started deleting apps to try and see which one was causing the bother. The answer is the facebook app - it was killing the peformance. Since its gone the tablet is back to how it was when I got it.

I don't know if it works in the same way as a phone but sometimes just rebooting/restarting really helps. I play RR3 a lot on my phone and after a week, it starts to get laggy when it gets hot. I found a reboot helps as it can get hot and still play fine.

The only solution I've found is to factory reset it and install a minimal set of apps and then have an app installed to reboot it daily. Only then is it mostly usable...

Nice device; shame the system updates completely screwed it up.

Have you installed that appalling piece of cack, Lollipop ? If so, that's your problem. If you have, best course of action is to backup your files and restore it back to kitkat.

This is what I did. No problems since.

Install Cyanogenmod on it.

My Nexus 7 has never run better and it only takes about 15 mins.

Cyanogenmod isn't the answer, it suffers from the same problems - kitkat would be an answer but then you'd possibly be opening your device open for security issues (Speculation, it's something I'd check up on if I was thinking of downgrading).

Lollipop is very secure. mainly because I don't turn my Nexus 7 on anymore.

Will be rolling back to 4.4 now I've dug it back out and put it on charge, but looking to see if I can stick windows 10 on it too...

3 members of my family including me had nexus 7s. All were reduced to computer scrap after the lollipop update. I gave up with it eventually and bought a samsung galaxy S4 tablet which has android kit kat. Now it wants me to download the lollipop update. I'm ignoring it, not falling for that again!

It's very easy to roll back to Kit Kat or earlier. Just google it and plenty of walkthrough guides are available.

If you want to install Cyanogenmod, you'll need to roll back to KitKat or earlier first as you can't install a KitKat based version of Cyanogenmod over the top of a Lollipop install. (last time I looked, there isn't a lollipop based version of cyanogenmod for the nexus7)

Cyanogenmod fixed the problems for me. Lollipop was awful. Made the tablet useless. KitKat was fine though, but I fancied trying something different so loaded on Cyanogenmod, and it's been faultless.

My original 2012 nexus7 was rendered useless by updating to lollypop, so much so that I ditched it for the 2013 version which works fine, and just the other day I had a notification of a update that's available to download, and not falling for that again.

Thanks, i'll need to unearth it out the drawer i shoved it in and give it a go. I remember looking about at the time to roll back to kit kat and struggled to find any way of doing it. Plus the tablet was that slow I had problems getting it to do anything, even basic stuff.

Xperia tablet is on its way...

Nexus will be flashed with 4.4 and sold. Shame as it was a great little tablet.

Put my Nexus 7 back to KitKat, works as it used to now, very pleased if I can get another year out of it.

What generation is it? If it's a first gen/2012 one then it might be fked - at least mine was, regardless of flashing older/custom roms onto it and always slow after a few weeks even if I installed bugger all apps onto it. frown
