My 1st gen Moto G seems to be using the battery quickly and slowing/freezing every so often. I'd been really happy with it and this caught my eye, (being on a sim only deal) with 2 years guarantee

http://www.johnlewis.com/motorola-moto-g-3rd-gener...

Or I could do it via Vodafone from £17/month, so almost a done deal until I noticed the Vodafone Smart 6.

Is the VS6 as hassle free as my Moto G has been up to now? I don't have Vodafone shop that near me to go and have a try, so any users' comments would be welcome.

Thanks

Careful with the Moto G. The 8gb variety only has 1gb of RAM, the same as 2013/2014. It's not enough with the latest android OS for a good experience long term.
16gb has 2gb RAM which is what I'd call minimum level you'll need for a smooth experience. That upgrade puts it into 2014 flagship territory such as Moto X, LG G3 and OnePlus One. Even seen refurb S5 for £230 on HUKD.

This is my concern. It should arrive tomorrow so we'll see how it fairs but I only plan on keeping it 18 months

EDIT- it arrived an hour ago. Loads faster than my gen 1 and the camera is miles better....the main two reasons for upgrading, along with the expandable memory.

1Gb Moto Gs seem to work pretty well, and being a cheap phone the 'long term' is much less relevant.

Been running a couple of them in the close family (2013 model) and haven't noticed any slowdowns.
However, this is family that uses FB, WhatsApp, Hangouts, Gmail and that's about it.

Sorry to bump but where's the 219 quid Oneplus One being sold from? All I can find is a 16gB for 230?

Not if you have a OnePlus One, 4G not possible IIRC.

There's a British OnePlus rival due out soon called the Wileyfox Storm, £199:

http://wileyfox.com/storm/

Runs on the same OS too I believe. I'm very tempted as a way of cutting down my phone costs.

I've found a 30-day SIM only deal on Carphone Warehouses network (Three-based) for £20/month - 10gb 4G, unltd mins / texts. I'm paying £40/month for that with EE on my Sony..

Was just about to post this. Popped up on my radar yesterday via Engadget I believe. Look to be a pair of decent spec devices for not a lot of money.

It has the same 20MP camera as my current Sony which is good as that's one of the features I really like. I am very tempted, as that phone with a £20 SIM would represent a good saving for a tiny downgrade.

But at the same time I still feel like going back to Apple - I do miss iOS after trying Android for the past 18 months.

There is a new operator called The People's Operator which the guy who founded Wikipedia is involved in and gives 10% of your bill to charity (Please pick The City of London Migraine Clinic if you do go with them) and they do a good deal. For £15 they give you:
PAYG
2000 texts
750 mins
5GB

Or

A 30 day rolling £14.99
(£3.99 for first 2 months)
Unlimited* mins
Unlimited* texts
6 GB

If you really are a power user for £20 you get:
Unlimited* mins
Unlimited* texts
31 GB

As far as phones go I have just got a Ulefone Be Touched 2 for about £115 and so far it is very good if a bit big for some. 1.7ghz octo core, 3gb ram, finger print scanner, HD screen, 4g, 13mp Sony cam, flash front and back. Gorilla glass 2.5d and people are impressed with the build quality.

Been looking at moving to TPO recently, but can't for the life of me find out whether it's 3G or 4G data thay provide. Closest I can see on their website is that they piggyback on EE, 'the UK's biggest 3G network'. Can you shed any light?

Also how do you find the Be Touched 2 (gotta love that name...)? Did you buy in the UK or get it shipped in?

I bought from China on aliexpress. It has been good and has impressed people who are techy. Quality feels good, signal is good, GPS seems ok but not fully tested that. Spec seems to be honest except I have scratched the screen on the camera bezel of another Be Touched 2 and slightly doubt the Gorilla Glass but can't prove that but they are not listed on the Cornings [sic] website. I benchmarked it with two different apps and that all holds up. I paid around £115-20 so for that if it is pretty amazing.

As far as TPO I don't know. If I find out I will post it up.
