Has anyone got one of the DJI phantom visions?

I had one up to last Saturday when after following all the instructions as I do every flight it just decided to fly off on it's own sweet merry way all I could do was watch it disappear with my screen saying phantom signal broken! when it was well within range still.
I had no control whatsoever and nothing I did would give me control back.
I had set my home point and had 7 GPS satellites connected flew around the area without issue landed and changed the battery I again set up as instructed hovered at about 12ft checked the area then the drone rocketed skyward hovered and went off in a straight line nothing I did made a blind bit of difference with a full battery it could be anywhere I have no chance of finding it.
I have tried the find my phantom on my APP but it show's the exact point that it took off from and it certainly isn't there.

Has anyone experienced similar?
Using it's specs of speed 15m/s (33.5mph) and battery life of 25 minutes it could be anywhere up to 14 miles away if it carried on it's straight line course.

With all the reports of Phantom flyaways, did you not have a GPS tracer installed?

Sorry to hear that, it must be sickening to see it go off into the distance with no control. I have a waterproof sticker on mine with contact details and reward notice, just in case.

Wasn't the Kp index quite high at times over the weekend? Could have affected your GPS fix and dropped it a lot lower than the 7 you had at the beginning of the flight, not sure why it would loose signal too though.

It's been found apparently no damage to it.
Seems it landed in some old ladies garden perfectly she returned from holiday and saw it.
Her nephew then put my picture on facebook from the SD card carried by the drone which was spotted by a friend.
Only problem is the five days it has sat outside in the elements I collect it tonight so here's hoping it's in good shape.

Fantastic news!
Probably worth giving it a good couple of days to dry off (maybe even stick it in a container of rice if you have a big enough container).
Also be very wary of the lipo as if it did run flat (or close to) then it could swell up and burst into flames when you try to charge it.
If you can afford to it could even be worth getting rid off and not risking at all. You don't want it to fail on your next flight.

Very lucky.

Get a FiLiFi pronto!

I never had a fly away (touch wood) but I have seen it happen to an S1000!!!
Flying around normal and then all of a sudden it just took off. Lucky we were on a 25 acre field and it came down about 500 yards away.
2 of us flying and we are both fairly experienced so we tried calmly to solve the problem whilst it flew around like a bucking bronco! Never did figure out why it went in. Required about 60% of the airframe replacing.

The worst I had was when my GPS came detached on my discovery. Cost me an arm, prop and a motor.

Was that with a Naza or a wookong?

Don't worry too much about it getting wet.

I fully submerged my FC40, left it in rice for a while (about 3 weeks but only because I got busy), and it still works fine.

It was A2!!!

That particular chap never seemed to have much luck TBH and if I had not seen it with my own eyes I would have said pilot error. I am still flying on my Naza V2 which must be 2 years old now and its solid as a rock.

I now have it back and all that I can see that is wrong is tone of the blades is missing a tip as below.

Not tried it yet will do that tomorrow but it looks fine and the finder said it wasn't wet at all.

On a serious note (and I'm not against these, I think they are amazing)

But are there not serious safety issues with a device that can do this?

In most safety critical systems in failing to maintain a link to controller, a system should shut down or fail in a safe way?

Is the tech on capable and not yet "public safe" in their current forms?

(awaits flaming, but again, I am keen on the idea, I just question if we need more rigour in the OS that controls the airframe and controllers)

I'd seriously think about ditching the battery. They do expand when wet and although all may appear ok you could experience a failure.

It should fly back to base when it loses the signal of the transmitter. If that always worked, there would be no lost drones.

Stick to the rules laid out by the CAA and UAV's are safe. The quad did what it's designed to do. The return to home feature failed for what ever reason (GPS error) but the next failsafe kicked in and the quads auto land activated opposed to falling out of the sky.

It's poor judgment by users that cause problems, but any incidents that have occurred are very rare.

How far away was it? And did you reward the finder?

It was about half a mile away and yes I gave a reward £100.

You may want to manually set the home position in future as part of your pre flights.
