Hi,

I have sky fibre with decent speeds but following a move to a bigger house I am seeing the wifi limitations with hub.

I think I am correct in saying that I cant replace the hub altogether but could use the hub as an acess point and add a router?

Couple of questions assuming this is correct.

1 Any recommendations on router wth great wifi strength and ease to set up - ive seen the Asus RT-AC68U which looks good but concerned re my point 3 below

2 How do I set this up? Router into the sky hub via ethernet, turn off wreless for sky hub (?) add sky hub password to new router somehow to allow it access (?) then connect devices via wireless to new router (add a password?)

3 Will sky tv box still work wireless from the new router?

Thanks

To be honest the simplest solution is to get a set of power line adapters e.g.

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/1...

One of these has its own wifi in which you plug in somewhere at the other end of the house.

The other plugs in next to your sky router and link via an Ethernet cable.

I've installed countless numbers of these and the work really really well.

You can setup the TP link wireless part using WPS which means it will adopt the same Network Name (SSID) and Password so your devices will seamlessly roam to the strongest signal.

Absolutely great bit of kit taking <5 mins to setup.

1. unpack
2. plug both in to wall or strip block near sky router.
3. connect power line without wifi to sky router.
4. wait for green lights.
5. press WPS button on router & and TP Wifi unit.
6. wait for WPS to complete.
7. unplug wifi unit walk to other end of house plug in wifi unit
8. drink beer

Might be wrong but think Sky only like you to use their routers that used to be the case I stand corrected if its changed
BUT that doesn't mean you cant add a second router and just use it as a wireless access point
Lots of guides available on line

Sky's T's and C's specifically state that you can't use none sky supplied equipment on Sky Fibre. That doesn't mean it can't be done of course!

It may cause issues if you need to call but the easiest method is likely the wi-fi power line adapters as above.

I have replaced my Sky router with the Asus RT-AC68U and everything works perfectly. Even better if you got the combined modem router from Asus which means doing away with the BT Openreach box.

Thanks again all.

Went with the plugs and after a bit of sorting the sync between the devices, I now have great wiresless speeds upstairs.

Given how well this has worked I think I will get another reciever to get the wireles into the conservatory.

Thanks smile
