Wireless ac router signal to mobile devices 30m away indoor?

I'm looking to move my home office from near the router at one end of the house to the other side of the house that I know my current router (wireless N single band) won't provide a good enough signal to.

Will a Wireless ac dual band router like a DLink DSL-2880AL give me a strong enough Wifi signal about 30m away especially for mobile devices like phones and tablets? Or should I just keep the existing router and get a wifi extender instead?

I prefer to get a new router if it can provide a strong enough signal as I won't get reduced speed due to adding a wifi extender.

Do all the devices support AC? Remember WiFi is two way communication, the devices have to be able to talk back to the router, the low output and small antenna in phones etc don't have a long range.

Best thing is to buy from somewhere you can return the new router if it does not work. You could also look at power line adaptors to send the signal over the mains. Can you run a CAT5 cable to the new location?

Typically in my experience 802.11ac has less range than g/n, the 2.4ghz range seems to be much better at transmitting than ac.

I have an AirPort Extreme router/access point and its from within the house the 5ghz ac is great, but out in the garage I can only access the 2.4ghz network as the signal is not at strong on the 5ghz network.

I can hardly get 5Ghz to leave the room. The thing is, in "crowded" areas (city, appartment blocks,...), you can easily fetch 20+ different wifi signals, almost all of them on 2.4Ghz. This means the regular band is unworkable, where 5Ghz just flies in comparison.

Other than that, 2.4Ghz penetrates walls a lot better.

Just done some research on this and I think this will be the best option for me. It will allow wifi with minimal bandwidth loss in my new office and will enable better wifi signal to that side of the house also.

So, I just buy one of these powerline wifi extender and a normal powerline adapter. The normal powerline adapter is plugged into the router connected with ethernet cable and connecting the powerline wifi extender in my office and all should work?

Yup, you normally get them as a kit. If it's an office you could take a powerline connection out there and install a switch as well so you can also have a wired connection back to your router.

Just got office setup with the TP-Link wifi extender. Worked perfectly. Whole house now has strong signal. No more black spots. Thanks everyone.
