I bought Mrs Oxgreen a laptop for her birthday. She set it up and started using it today. All good.

I've just added a user account for myself, and I can't get the keyboard layout right for my account. When I hit the @ key I get " and vice versa.

Everything is correct on Mrs Oxgreen's account. The @ and " keys work the correct way round.

In my account, if I go into the Region and Language settings, the "Country or region" is set to United Kingdom. Under Languages, if I click English (United Kingdom), the Set As Default button is greyed out, suggesting that it's already the default.

So what do I need to do to get my keyboard working as an English keyboard?

Look under Control Panel | Clock, Language and Region | Language | Change input methods.

There was a "getting stuck with US input" bug for quite a while. If you are getting that,

Thanks!!

I think I solved it by switching to English UK Extended keyboard. Strange, as Mrs Oxgreen's account is using the normal English UK keyboard, and works normally.

Had this problem on two Windows 10 Pro machines on a domain, and solved it the same way by adding "English (UK) Extended" keyboard.

No idea why it doesn't happen on other machines.
