I'm getting quotes at the moment for external insulation.
There was a 75% government grant for that the other year, no idea what the current deals are though.

What's wrong with a Cisco AP ? Much more horsepower than the domestic stuff so will cope far better with multiple devices streaming, you don't need the controllers obviously. UniFi are OK, the pro devices are good value.

I'm not suggesting reducing the number of power points but they are ugly, seriously hamper the ambience if you can't hide them and not everybody wants a load of furniture to hide the ugly walls.
My new place is getting a directional aironet so I can sit at the end of the garden and browse seedy websites and pistonheads while I drink a cold beer.

I hate wireless, and a crappy £40 netgear isnt going to cut the mustard. I'd wire cat6 through the house but not sure I want to dig holes in my walls. Saying that they are newly plastered and unpainted so now would be an opportune time to do just that.

OP, despite the naysayers, I can confirm that USB in plate sockets are bloody brilliant. The "but the standards change" techie types might be happy to have a wall of sockets and PSU's. I'm not. 1 in bedroom, 1 in kitchen and robert's your auntie's lover. Or something.

I'd think carefully about external insulation - my understanding is it temperemental stuff, and once you drill holes in it (satellite dish, exterior lights), moisture gets in and knackers it.

Even if the standards change, it's only a few quid to swap the wall sockets subsequently anyway, so I'm with you.
