Dereck it might just be worth checking out the warranty status on the faulty drive via the manafacturers website. I believe the other guys are right about 3tb drives being ok now to use as boot drives. I do know some smart TVS cant see 3tb drives but that's about it
Thanks. I've sent an email and admitted I have no receipt. I await their response. It is not as if it is not one of theirs. I've also contacted the supplier of the bare-bones system. The guarantee is 12 mnths but you never know.On the HDD there's a System Reserved partition, 349MB, with 107 used. I've always wondered what that is for. Any Idea?

Might be a good opportunity to swap to a SSD?
Are they more reliable? I'll pay for that.I'd put a 500gb drive in for the OS and application files and use another larger drive for regular storage.

Thanks for that, guys. Ordering one now. There's one on Dabs for £100. http://www.dabs.com/products/sandisk-480gb-ultra-i... plus the cost of a tray as I haven't any 2.5 bays.
I've found the receipt for the HDD. I year guarantee, and I bought it nearly two and a half years ago.
I'm going for a clean instal. of win7 and then upgrade to win10.

It'll be like a new machine with the SSD
Just ordered the SSD plus a 3TB HDD to replace the storage lost with the defective 1TB HDD.I only use the C: drive for temporary storage, removing files every month. So I'll have 6.5TB. It is incredible.
More remarkable is that, with my video, I'll be moaning about lack of space within a year.
Looking forward to the 'new' computer.
Thanks again.
