I'm with Three. Also just out of contract after 2 years with the 1020. I was on the Unlimited Internet 500 tariff that was £33 per month.

I also had an Ipad 3 from them with a 15gb per month limit that was £25 per month.

I went over the bills for the past 12months on both and noticed that I only went over 200mins on the phone once and only over 4gb once on the Ipad.

So stopped the Ipad and changed my phone sim to a £17 12 month contract that gives me 200 mins, unlimited data and 4gb tethered and some stupid amount of texts.

Just need to keep an eye on the phone calls and how much of the tethered data I use. I could have gone for £22 which would have given me 600mins and 8gb of tethered data.

Just got to wait delivery from Amazon of my white 950xl now.

Looks like we've also got USB OTG as well. Don't think I'll bother plugging in a mouse! http://www.windowscentral.com/lumia-950-and-usb-ot...

My Lumia 920 is over three years old now and as much as I think there are a lot of things right with the 950 and that I'd like to get one, I just can't justify ditching the 920. I'm running the 10586 build of W10 on my 920 and work-issued 930 and have been using previous builds for quite some time. It's been really nice to see the OS develop and it's definitely become a lot slicker than the very first horrific, disjointed, clumsy builds.

If my 920 breaks, I think the 950 is the only thing on my list.

I have a Lumia 930 at the moment. I thought seriously about getting the 950 (not the XL), but the 930 is working fine, and I felt that a WM10 upgrade would probably be enough for me. Continuum is cool, but I don't see myself using it yet.

That pretty much sums up my feelings. Over the past year I've been drinking the Microsoft kool-aid and migrated all my iOS/Android devices: Windows 10 on most of my PCs, Lumia 930, Surface Pro 3 and a Band 2 just this week. But I can't help feeling underwhelmed by the 950s - they're OK but strike me as placeholders until Microsoft come up with the real deal. However, I worry whether Microsoft truly have their heart in the mobile market.

My contract is up in May, so I've got a while to decide.

My MS employee friends are looking forward to a surface phone and think the 950's are compromised....

In what way compromised? I moved to a 640XL a month ago having got fed up with Android. The 640 is pretty awesome considering it was 150 new.

Hardware quality mostly I think. Too plasticy seems to be the verdict.

Ah thanks that's ok, I can live with that since I never even use a phone until it's in a military grade case and has a good screen protector on. I had heard rumour that the processor being a desktop one with liquid cooling was a bad concept.

Already a few phones that do that apparently. IMO, nothing beats the 1020 with the wireless charging back for feel in the hand. Hated the 930 for the 2 months I had it till I lost it in Vietnam. Straight back to the 1020 and happy with the decision.

I thought I was going to be excited about the 950 but I find myself getting a bit fed up with WP recently. My 930 is a great phone and WP tiles has to be the nicest OS to use but the quality of the apps just isn't improving. Phonos is slow and looks horrible, Facebook has a lack of very basic features, such as when someone posts an album, there's no click through to that album you only load a photo. The Autotrader app won't load or update saved cars. Maybe half of the html emails I get don't display properly and many big name websites don't display properly.

Despite the 930 camera being fantastic, particularly real capture, I'm thinking of going to Galaxy S6 or similar. A shame, I'd love to stay.

I wouldn't write off WP just yet, windows 10 seems to be going in the right direction (I admit a little on the late side) and should finally start to persuade app developers to come over. It's only going to take one major app to support WP natively and sales will rise, and so will app development. It's just getting there first major app.

There was rumors snapchat was finally considering developing a WP app but that did go a bit quiet, I wonder if they where holding out for 10 with the IoS/Android cross compiler tools coming in. In my opinion I think if snapchat did finally come over to WP it would be the change in the wind that WP needs to really take off and put a dent in the market share.

The android thing has been removed I hear. The iOS kit still exists and requires some decent effort on the devs part to get the thing up and running in WP. The android kit basically could do this without any effort on the devs part (though likely it would require some to stop it being a janky mess). But they have decided that being that easy would probably hurt them more than it benefits them. No real incentive for android app developers to really make much effort on their apps in WP. Just port it over regardless...if its a slow jerky mess and people hate it, they don't lose much.

Indeed, project Astoria for WP appears to have been shelved due to the risk of peeing off existing Windows app developers - though interestingly the difference was that the Android thing was supposed to be an emulator whereas the iOS project is supposedly a set of tools for porting. I'm not quite sure why there wasn't parity on this - it must be just easier to write a tool that ports iOS to WP rather than Android to WP.

I saw the release of the 950/950XL on the live webcast and was underwhelmed to the point that I actually ditched WP (My 930 was on it's last legs) and I went with a Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, which is rather lovely.

The biggest problem for me is that Continuum, while a cool idea, is likely to end up a bit the way of Windows RT. It doesn't support enough applications to be useful for me, and only really makes sense with an x86 processor that I can run real tools on. It does also seem a bit hobbled - like no snap on applications and a proper desktop would also be useful.

I may go back to WP as I really loved it, but waiting for the white elephant x86 Surface Phone that may or may not end up coming to fruition.

I've pre-ordered a 950 to replace my ageing (and slightly cracked) 920 - even without it being the XL it's still a bit on the large side for my tastes but I think it'll be ok smile

Had an email from Amazon tonight saying that delivery/release date had been changed from the 12th to the 20 Dec. So order cancelled.

Ordered it from Carphone Warehouse instead who have been shipping them for the last few days.

first review i have seen from The Verge. Sounds a bit meh, especially the hardware which they described as plastiky. Granted, if it doesnt have an apple logo on it they generally dont seem to give glowing reviews, but I was encouraged by a even handed, albeit brief, roundup of the iPad Pro vs Surface Pro 4.

I'd have to reserve judgement until I hold one though. Plastic is fine by me so long as it feels solid. I don't want it to feel like a cheapy throw-away nokia burner phone though. As well, I have found phones with more plastic in their construction hold onto cell and WiFi signals much better. My all metal HTC is very poor in this regard and I don't think the thin strips of plastic in the casing are enough to solve it.
I think the polycarb casing on the 920 is the perfect material for a phone. It's really strong, light and doesn't mess up the radios. I've never understood why more manufacturers don't use it (other than the fact it's not SHINYSHINY).

Pre-ordered a 950 the day they became available, been using WP since 2011. My current phone died two weeks ago so bought one of these as a stop gap for £50: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00XVYDQ1M

Have now cancelled the order for the 950. Does ~85% of what the 950 can do for ~15% of the price. I never use case or screen protectors so if it breaks it's cheap enough to replace.

Essentially zero ROM customisation by BLU and the W10 update is due soon after the RTM is released.

Been pretty impressed with it so far.

Slightly more positive from gsmarena.

I'm still not sure about this. I have a 930 and I'm not sure it is enough of a step forward. Windows is still my favourite mobile OS so I guess I will hang about and see if the rumoured Surface Phone makes an appearance.
