It amuses me people complaining about Black Friday saying they won't buy anything...what better time to buy than when many items are reduced to be loss leaders?

Sure, some stuff on Amazon is tat - but there are some really good deals to be had.
It was also shown on TV this morning that most deals are cheaper in the January sales! Wait a month and save more....

So your telling me the prices of goods reduce as time goes by? I'm shocked. Why not wait 12 months and save even more?

Seriously though, if your kid wants a PS4 for Christmas, what good does buying it in January do?

I don't know...maybe I'm wired wrongly but if I want something I tend to just buy it at whatever is the best price at the time I want it. If I don't want something, all the cheap deals in the world won't induce me to buy it.

So for Black Friday to be appealing, I would need to arrive at the conclusion that I want X, Y, or Z simultaneous to the calendar rolling over to Friday. I guess I'm just not a 'deals' type person and that couple with the feral behaviour seen in shops during sale time makes me quite happy to pay a premium to shop any other time of the year (except the January sales!).

Amazon Fire stick £25.
Was tempted but went with the Roku stick for £30, seems to be the better device in reviews... however I've noticed that Tesco Direct are selling them for £24, I wonder if Amazon would price match post order... scratchchin

Anyway, hopefully should be an improvement over the elderly heavy breathing desktop PC I've got hooked to my living room TV than can't output 1080p smoothly irked

I agree with you - but for me there are so many things on Amazon as lightning deals I would be buying ordinarily (Kraken Rum and Malibu tonight for example for Mrs F40).

I think the people queuing at shops are crazy when you can buy everything on Amazon for less normally...

Hive 2 is now £120 on Amazon without installation, £180 with.

I went with a Hive since;
It's thermostat is battery powered and can be placed anywhere.
Nest thermostat is wired (to a mains plug) and unless mounted on a wall the stand is £30.
I couldn't see the benefit of the auto-sensing/learning features of the Nest, at least IMO with my house layout/expected usage etc.
OTOH Hive requires a 3rd box to connect to your router, while the Nest connects using WiFi

TBH I'd have probably happy with either device...

Friend of mine has a Nest. Looks good, but function is a bit off (I'm not sure but I don't think it controls your hot water)
Hive 2 looks good and seems to do all you would need. I have a Tado for just under a year now and can recommend that. The gprs presence detection works very well. It's one of those things that once installed you never have to think about.

Hm ordered it yesterday at £140 (no installation), think Amazon would be able to price match post order?

Are there any prerequisites for hive to work?

I have a 10+ year old combi boiler, would it work with that? How does it work?

A few options I have used...

1) Cancel the order and reorder if it's not been posted.
2) Go on the online chat and ask them nicely - normally they will refund the difference.
3) Order again and return the original one (or refuse delivery of it to save postage).

I've found that either 2 or ring them works best - i've done it a couple of times

I bought one of these last night :-

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/4...

Lenovo S21 laptop / netbook for £129.99. Still showing as £176 on Amazon.

VERY light, good size, sharp screen. Has a Micro SD port, so i've stuck a card in that for storage.

I travel a fair bit so the light and compactness is paramount

Also picked up a set of these Bose on ear headphones.

I have these already - paid £75 on an amazon lightening deal earlier in the year, but they're usually £119.99, or £129.99

Currently in Argos at £59.99, so i'm picking up a set for my son.

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/2...

They fold up neatly and come with a nice little storage case

I can't decide which one:
SAMSUNG Galaxy S6 - 32 GB
or
LG Nexus 5X 32 GB

Both within a tenner of each at 339-349

I care most about battery life and the Nexus has a bigger battery. That's the one to get right?

Hoping I can pick up a decent 1440p monitor somewhere, preferably with Gsync but haven't seen anything worth talking about yet.

I'm just heading into town to fill up with diesel and to buy some milk and eggs. Hoping to pay a bit less than usual as it's black Friday.
