My wife's birthday is coming up next month.
She currently has a ipad 4, she also had an iPhone, but after trying out my s5, went and bought a Samsung note 4, she much prefers the open platform Android offers BUT she also appreciates the look/feel/quality of her ipad.

I was looking at upgrading her currently ipad 4, Ideally with an android tablet.
I'm not up to date with the latest/greatest tablet ranges, so I begun looking at the apple range to get some sort of comparison.
The original 16gb ipad air is available for £249 which is about my budget (via argos at the moment, £319 through apple).

It'll get used to watch Netflix /movies, and browsing the Internet.

So to summarise...

1) Android tablet
2) similar size to an ipad (9.7")
3) Ideally have Expandable storage, but if it has 32gb, that would be plenty.
4) budget about £250
5) It should feel like it's an upgrade from an ipad 4 (retina), look/build quality and performance. I have a feeling I'm going tostruggle, and will probably end up having to just get her a ipad air, but I'm hopeful someone can come up with a suggestion.

Tiny bit over budget but right now the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 is on sale at John Lewis: http://www.johnlewis.com/samsung-galaxy-tab-s2-qua...

Just ordered one to replace my own iPad.

I've always looked past lenovo strangely...
I'll look into that.

The Samsung looks good, they seem to have a ridiculous number of tablet, with various makes, can't make sense of it

If it's for movies/netflix, a 16:9 ratio tablet will offer a lot more real estate without really being bigger.
Big pro of the samsung ones are the stereo front facing speakers in that case, also expandable memory.

Another contender for me would be the Asus Zenpad series, 32GB and expandable memory all easily within your budget.

Nexus 9, Made by HTC.

Think they are £199 at the moment, I've got one and its excellent due to the pure Android experience, Also got a Nexus 6P phone.

Only downside is the lack of memory card slot.

I was having this exact quandary on Thu/Fri last week.

I was looking at buying a Sony Z4 tablet but the £499 price was putting me off (even if it does include the bluetooth keyboard).

In the end I could not justify the Sony, so I went into PC World on Friday to try the Samsung and I ended up buying one.

32GB for £299 with a cracking AMOLED screen was a no brainer IMO.

I will stick a 32GB SC card in it, and I have bought a tough case for it http://www.amazon.co.uk/SUPCASE-Samsung-Fullbody-P...

It's now up and running, using Apex launcher, I have installed KODI, it runs a Kindle app for e-books, browsing is a pleasure, in fact the whole thing is great and I would highly recommend it.

Another recommendation for the Lenovo Yoga.

Bought one to be sociable and stay in the same room as wife when she watches strictlycomexfactorchef and it streams HD SkySports/movies faultlessly.

Does everything the more expensive ones do and the built in stand is a great idea.

Good to hear, the Sony was top of my list too but the Samsung was too much of a good deal to turn down so it's nice to hear someone else in the same boat.

I'll probably get the official Samsung case, the book type because I want it to act as a stand. http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/mobile-devices/...
