As an introduction the M9 is my 5th HTC phone and was an "upgrade" from the M7 - I got it on release day and seem to have been plagued with issues ever since. I've seen a few similar reports on various mobile / Android sites but wondered if anyone else here had one and was getting problems too?

I was disgruntled but tolerant of the "quirks" until this weekend when the phone seemed to develop a couple of new hardware issues. As a note the phone has been pampered from new, case on from day one with cushioned corners, phone never dropped and used in anger really. It's 100% standard but updated to the latest software bundles supplied by EE.

1. Charging - phone sometimes sits on charge (bundled charger and cable) for hours but actually loses charge during that time.

2. Charging - phone sometimes charges to ~94% but then discharges to ~30% despite nothing running and still being on charge (with charge light on)

3. Heat - occasionally locks up or slows down dramatically, generates lots of heat to the point where it's uncomfortable to touch and then needs a soft reset or be left to fully discharge before it can be used again.

4. G-Sensor - this has stopped working, screen rotation no longer works, calibration runs but when it completes the x-axis indicator jumps to the right and stays there. A sensor test via the "help" app fails.

5. Vibration - suddenly stopped working last week.

No rogue apps installed, nothing intensively showing up on power history checks, I haven't done extensive testing in safe mode other than to check the hardware stuff which still doesn't work.

All of this is on top of my huge disappointment with the performance of the camera and general feel of the phone, it's just taken me this long to finally get to the end of my patience with it.

Obviously I'm way out of the time period where I can just hand this back and get a proper phone but I'm also concerned with reports of how poor HTCs service centres are.

I just wanted to get a feel for things amongst the wider community to see if others have experienced similar issues, most people I know in the real world have iPhones or Samsung offerings... perhaps that says it all smile

Fellow M9 owner here and I feel your pain with some of these issues on what is an otherwise nice phone to use.

Re: the charging / battery / heat issues - what is your signal like when this happens? If I have low or intermittent signal, my power usage goes through the roof as the cell repeatedly attempts to connect. Turning 4G off at these times can help.

I had the same issue with the G-Sensor stopping working. The fix may make you cringe but give the phone a drop from about 6 inches onto its end on a soft but firm surface (carpeted floor worked for me), reboot and recalibrate.

Coming from a Samsung S4, the HTC is a much better phone; the Samsung had many more issues and felt ever so cheap in comparison. Don't let the quirky features put you off, the grass isn't always greener!

The signal at home is a solid 4G but the phone is usually connected to WiFi too so that might play a role but with the power saver mode on it shouldn't really be doing much with the screen off. HTC said it was a faulty charger and oddly when it's plugged in with one from my wifes S6 it charges fine (and quickly). Unfortunately the replacement from HTC had the same symptoms.

I read about the drop thing when I was looking for answers this morning, amazing that it's sorted it for so many people, I tried it but to no avail but then several hours later screen rotation suddenly started to work so perhaps it was still dazed smile I contacted HTC earlier today and their only advice was a hard reset, I'm guessing this is their answer to everything to make people go away for 24 hours smile

It's a nice enough phone but I've just been plagued with niggles from day one, in contrast my wife has the S6 as I mentioned above and that seems to tick pretty much all of the boxes and feels solid with it.

Hopefully we're just a software update away from the phone it should be but in the meantime I'd at least like to swap this one out for a box-fresh M9 to be sure I don't have some kind of turkey.
