The other half has recently received a Kindle Fire HD for her birthday and is looking at various books and music albums to download, and I've been looking at Prime subscription in advance of the new "Top Gear", but also as I've found my allegiance to eBay is being eroded by Amazon consistency.

I've seen a "Prime Household" option that looks like we can share the benefits of prime, but I think we both need to have active credit/debit cards attached to the accounts. This concerns me as the kids have started playing on the Fire HD, and although we purposely didn't add any payment options to her tablet, it concerns me that "accidental" purchases could be made. Virtually every electronic device is locked down in the house, but it doesn't stop them trying to hack passwords etc, then feigning innocence when they invariably get caught (and lose internet privileges for a week, but still don't learn) .

If I take a Prime subscription in my name for one day delivery and video streaming, can she also use it for books and music? Or would it be better to have it in her name with a pre-paid debit card, and have me a second user for one day delivery?

Yes to fully share the Prime Benefits the two adults need to have valid payment cards.

Quote Amazon:

Because we want you to be able to share the very best of Prime, we are introducing the Amazon Households Programme. With Amazon Households, in addition to sharing your access to the Prime Unlimited One-Day Delivery that you love, you and one other adult family member and four children will be able to share Prime Video, Prime Early Access, and the Kindle Owners' Lending Library. Create a family library to share books, apps, and games with your Household members across all of their Amazon devices and media apps. Both Household adults can manage parental controls with Amazon FreeTime for children in the Amazon Household.

Here's a link to the Amazon Help page - hope it helps:

Re the books ,you only get to borrow one free one a month ,so not one of primes membership star points, music on the other hand I think is a bargain,ok they don't have everything on there but its easy enough to fill your phone with something you do like.

Books on Prime - I get to borrow up to 10 at a time. No limit per month as far as I know. Not all books qualify
Music - reasonably good choice
Films & TV series - likewise
Delivery - free,one-day; but not on everything (eg some non-amazon suppliers)

Happy with it for the cost. Especially if the available content continues to improve.

I have set up movies & music on different devices (laptop, phone, smart TV) and don't see why my login wouldn't work on other family devices as well.

Surely you must have Kindle Unlimited as well as Prime.

With Prime you can only borrow one book per month.

I couldn't be without amazon prime now. It has 100% eBay for me.

1) next day delivery on most goods (virtually all, some cheap stuff might cost you £1-2 more to order from Amazon vs a cheaper secondary seller) up till pretty late the day before ordering. Most prime is delivered by amazon's own drivers, so they listen to instructions on where to leave stuff.

2) unlimited photo storage on their site, I have 60gb backed up as an external storage. Also dead easy to send albums to others for them to download photos they like.

3) prime tv/video, not quite as good as Netflix but still plenty of good stuff.

4) prime music, plenty of good stuff

5) books etc, can't say ive ever used it

6) unbeatable customer service, they take it very seriously and will bend over backwards to sort things out.

7) amazon store truly is a one stop place for everything except groceries. Tools, garden stuff, toiletries, electronics, clothes etc etc

Thanks for that, will follow with interest.

Also worth adding, they do amazon family for young kids. Nappies are very cheap compared to the usual big shops, and you can subscribe to toiletries for regularly deliveries of them.

Finally to add, Amazon have the most dangerous thing in the world.... "one click buy". It's just that, find item, click button....arrives next day! Simple as that.

Thanks all for the input - signed up to AP this weekend, and set up the household functions. Kids are locked out of purchases without my password, and the other half has her whole profile pin-coded.

She's bought a few books already at 99p, and learning about the lending library.

I've got my Tassimo pods on subscription now as well. Genius idea that one.

I found a slight negative of the lending library at the weekend. I'm half way through my first lending library book (only signed up for Prime mid-Jan) - and was away Sat night so took my tablet since it obviously offers more variety than just the Kindle. When I tried to continue reading, I was a bit surprised I couldn't - the book doesn't show up on the tablet. Guess the lending library restricts you to a single device (or more likely just the Kindle?).

^correct. Bit of a pain as I tend to read across several devices depending on where I am.

It's not limted to a single device, but it is limited to Kindles and Fire tablets.

I use Amazon Cloud for music and am thinking of joining for delivery services.

I keep seeing Prime Music on my Sonos. Is this service included if I sign up for Prime, or are they just using Prime as a sort of sub-brand for everything?

Also, what would I need to buy to watch their Prime TV on my TV?

Thanks

I wish you hadn't said that!

I told a lie there. I checked again today, I see it on Amazon Cloud, but NOT on my Sonos.

Perhaps if I joined up it might appear, on the Amazon website it seems to say it is included in Prime delivery.

My TV is not on the list and I also live in France and Spain/

Can you say if this do the job? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Amazon-W87CUN-Fire-TV-Stic...

Would I need to connect via my VPN? or is their content not geographically limited?

Thanks

When they doubled the price of prime I wasn't impressed, but I'm a little happier now.
I subscribe to netflix and prime, both very good. Netflix seems to have the better TV series/shows and prime better films, plus renting/buying films like atv. My telly has the native apps plus I have nowtv and apple tv (2). Not a lot to choose between them, performance wise.

I think one of the big problems with Prime, is the app. It's not easy to find something, with Netflix it's all in categories and you have the recommended stuff too, but I always seem to spend ages on Prime, just finding something to watch and end up switching over to Netflix.
The latest app update is a bit of an improvement.
The plus side, no extra cost for 4k and the picture is excellent!
