I usually stick V-Power in my Focus ST as it makes it a bit more responsive and nicer to drive but just went to fill up now at Shell at Morley, Leeds and it's 120.9 whereas normal unleaded is 102.9 !! For as long as I can remember there's always been about 7-9ppl difference between the two so why is it suddenly 18ppl? yikes

fk the responsiveness! It's getting normal unleaded in til the price comes back down!!

Is it roughly the same price difference in your areas too?

Here in Norfolk, Shell UL is 102.9p and V-Power 111.9p, so 9p difference.

Morley Shell is normally a rip-off, Shell at the Tong Roundabout is normally a little cheaper, even though it is closer to the motorway.

Normally V-Power is 8ppl more than their regular fuel, which itself is normally 3-4p more than most Supermarket stations I've found.

I think V-Power was 110ppl at Shell in Horsforth when I filled up the other week. The money off vouchers you get does offset it to a degree though...

Generally always stays about 8-9p difference.

Tesco 95 - 99.9
Tesco Momentum 99 - 104.9

Generally always 4-5p difference

It's usually around 5-10p more as others state - but there's one station in my town (A BP) I recall once charging 30p more for Super than regular - it was about £1.50 when regular was £1.20.

Just watch out when filling, there is a thread on another forum I frequent that has a picture of normal unleaded at around 102 and then super at 150!

A few weeks ago when visiting my wife mother in hospital at East Grinstead I pulled in to fill up with Super at a garage that was charging £1.03 for Regular unleaded.
Luckily before I started filling I noticed they were charging £1.50 for Super.
I popped into the pay desk and asked if it was a mistake, but they said no, that was the correct price.
Needless to say I drove on to the next garage. Another reason for not letting the fuel drop into the red.
Some garages try it on. Daylight robbery.

Ran into something similar at a local JET station. They took over a BP, and now one of the two rows of pumps is super unleaded and super diesel only at 25p/l more than the standard fuel!

The lower 'normal' petrol gets, the more likely the difference in cost between it and the 'premium' variety is to get bigger. Given enthusiasts and people with specific cars were willing to pay considerably more for the premium fuel when petrol generally was more expensive, so we should be equally willing to pay a premium now it's cheaper - without regard to the relative price difference compared to 'normal' fuel. Enthusiasts are willing to pay a premium, simple as that.

It is t*king the p*ss but the lower prices for the normal stuff (for the riff raff) gets, the more premium products (for gaotee-wearing company directors), become a profit centre.

I have to say, thanks mainly to laziness/convenience, I've been using Sainsbury's premium fuel recently. I can't say I've noticed a huge difference in performance, but fuel economy (not scientifically measured, more casual observation on how much fuel it takes to go from A to B and back) seems better than V-Power that I generally used in the past. Plus it's cheaper than my local Shell's regular petrol.

Not sure why I typed "t*king" there, but hey.

I put Tesco 99 in my CLS and then went back to normal unleaded and it felt flat, few miles and it sorted itself out and seems back to full strength.

Anyone else experienced that, its like the Dog after leftover roast dinner, doesnt want to go back to his dog food !

It isn't unheard of - modern cars are fitted with knock sensors etc... and will adjust their timing to compensate. It stands to reason that the car will have become "used" to 99 octane - and the first few gulps of 95 might leave sour taste until it adjusts

It's not just rip off Britain so if it makes anyone feel any better, the price difference between 87 and 93 octane here in the US is about 40 cents, which is a broadly similar spread in price.

Are you sure of the momentum price? Seems low.
Been a steady 99.9p for regular and 104.9 for momentum all around my area.

I've yet to feel any difference between V Power and Momentum and the cost difference here is 4p, so I generally go to Tesco.
