Hi All,

My OH is finally exiting her rubbish Virgin Media/8Gb iPhone 4 contract.

She now has a Moto X Play with huge amounts of storage which I bought for her and is looking for a SIM-only deal with plenty of data.

The Giff Gaff £20 Gigabag looks interesting - 6Gb of data at 4G then unlimited at 256kb/s. BUT as it's a piggy back carrier I'm not convinced that the data coverage is all that.

Any other suggestions for a similar package?

Are you a BT broadband customer? Their SIM only deals seem ok.

GiffGaff Goodybags can be set up to auto-renew so its no faff at all.

Giff Gaff is easy - my son has it - but they are piggy backing on other networks and I find the data coverage a bit patchy compared to Vodaphone (which I have through my employer) and Virgin Mobile) which my wife has been using.

Hence looking for something as good value as Giff Gaff but with better data coverage.

GiffGaff run on the O2 network so not too shabby - depends on your area though. I have a Vodafone work phone and the GiffGaff sim in my ipad is comparable signal wise - Surrey/Hampshire anyhow.

Maybe but then it's no different to a contract.

I was with GiffGaff for a couple of years. They deffo had more outages than Three have ever had (always an O2 issue apparently) and I think in the end it was the lack of Internet travelling from Berkshire to Lancashire that did it for me (this was around the time they were switching over to 4G so I gave them several months but the situation didn't improve).

Depending on where you want to use your phone might be an issue too. When I was in the UAE I couldn't make calls on a PAYG phone, apparently they had some fraud over there or something, that was last April so it may be better now. If you're not likely to go there it may not even worry you hehe

I switched from goodybags on giffgaff to sim only contract with Three (18 quid unlimited data) a few months ago, my service has been much better. In central London I always had a good signal with giffgaff, however the data was particularly slow - I now get 4G in most areas and its usable but not lightning quick.

Of course it is, you can stop the renewal whenever you like. There's no committment to 12, 18 or 24 months like a contract.

I found giffgaff coverage and speeds poor.

Moved over to 3 which was much better. This will all vary according to locality I suppose. I tested both in the SE, SW and NW of England.

Shifted over to 3 last year on the PAYG sim only. Haven't looked back. Almost ready to kick my monthly Tesco sim into touch as I rarely touch it.

3 European access to your your package is also a massive bonus!

Thanks for all the contributions.

Currently 3 is edging it for me - I have a new Galaxy 6 Edge+ and will do tons of data here (and on hols in France) but not many minutes so they can give me unlimited data + use in France + 200 mins on a 4G network for £20 month.

And Virgin have offered unlimited data + unlimited calls + unlimited texts on a 3G network for the same price, £20/month. Probably suits the OH better.
