Good Morning Gents

Wondering if anyone can point me in the right location to find the definitive requirements(laws)related to the actual markings and signage legally required to enforce no parking restrictions

Basically my son parked in a side road near his office which he has done several times (without any problems), however he has now received PCN as the photos clearly show there are signs in place that indicate that there are timed restrictions, however there are no actual road marking that indicate where the restriction actually applies

I have contested the fine and been told that he is still liable to pay penalty despite me asking for clarification regarding the need for clear and visible lines

Any help would be much appreciated

Cheers

IIRC, a restricted zone doesn't require lines.

I count six signs in your picture telling people not to park in front of the entrance...

am I not right in thinking that the road markings are required to indicate where the restriction starts and stops, otherwise the restriction in theory is endless

No, they use signs to mark where the restriction starts and ends.

I was under the impression these sort of zones were specifically introduced to allow yellow line not to be necessary. I know there's been stories in the local rag specifically about this.

For example this article
https://www.gov.uk/government/news/councils-urged-...

Supports that.

Sorry to hijack the thread but I have a related question.

Single yellow line on a side road in Birmingham, but no signage at all regarding restrictions. Can I park or not?

Probably in the CPZ - http://www.birmingham.gov.uk/cpz

For the OP, there are signs up stating there are parking restrictions on the road in question so none should be too surprised a ticket has been issued. What's not to understand? My guess is one or more local residents were getting sick and tired of people using the road where they live as a free car park. I know parking's a real pain these days but that's probably the reason. As frustrating as it seems, it's a fair cop. Pay the fine.

Pay up, but then, a few days later, file a claim for suspension damage from the poor state of that road, get triple your money back - LOSE WIN WIN

Yep, that or the on-road parking is causing an obstruction to buses or dustcarts, fire engines, or simply other "normal" traffic etc. This isn't meant to sound arsey but they won't (or certainly SHOULDN'T) introduce a CPZ just because locals don't like others parking on the road. There will be a reason for it - in an industrial area it will be to prevent vans, trucks etc parking on all the footways for days on end.

Ta. Its just in the outer zone, so you can park in pay and display bays. I assume you cant park on a single yellow? Surely if that's the case they should be double yellow as that would take away any confusion

Single yellow means you can park at some times, not others - but the problem is that is shown on the CPZ sign when you enter the zone. I parked on a single yellow on Waterloo Street one Sunday about 10 years ago, got a ticket and appealed because I'd found a way into the CPZ which didn't pass any CPZ signs. They might be a bit more thorough now with the signage.

Good luck!
