Anyone have any experience of 3 Mobile? I quite like the look of their free data roaming in Europe.

Yep, switched to them about 18 months ago after 6 years with O2.

Best decision ever!

Circa £40 a month sees me with a top-tier phone, unlimited texts/data and 600 minutes. I've used the 'at home abroad' feature a few times and it was very good, managed to get decent data speeds as well even though I was in a field in France. Just make sure you call them to activate prior to travelling as it is switched off by default.

I've called their customer service a few times over the last 18 months and found them really helpful. Can't fault them to be honest. Slight negative is that signal can be a fit spotty and their 4G coverage isn't huge, but I find these to be minor points.

I have a three sim card in an iPad. Great 3G signal, easily out performs Vodafone regularly and the roaming abroad is perfect.

Only company to give out free home signal boxes as far as I know, which is handy as our cottage is a dead spot for all networks.

As said by others, bit iffy in the countryside compared to some others but that's it.

Yep
I moved to them from Orange several years ago and haven't regretted it once.

Signal was a bit hit and miss at first, so they sent me one of their very effective home signal boxes.
The signal is fine now both in and out the house even without the box,
So I've added both my wife and daughter on sim only contracts which give unlimited texts and Internet for less than 40 quid a month for all 3 combined.

We also used our phones abroad last year in 3 different feel at home countries with no problems and more importantly no extra charges

The Three network 10 years ago was shocking in every respect. Now I wouldn't be with any other network provider.

Roaming in the USA for free whilst using your UK allowance is quite special.

I ought to e-mail this testimonial to 3. I'm sure they would be quite pleased. Would they do me a special price? Doubt it.

At the moment I have a "3" pay as you go sim which I'll be activating in May just prior to a European trip. If it works as good for me, I'll take out a plan after that.

Used 3 for probably 10 years, never had a problem.
Company phone was o2 which was bad, now they changed to Vodaphone it's even worse. My personal 3 number always worse.
Dirt cheap too on SIM only.

It surprises me that more people aren't on the Three network.

I imagine it's down to the bad reputation from the past and not so great subsidies on Pay Monthly phones.

For sim only it's spot on.

it is fantastic. I used 12gb of data in france while we were on holiday (and that included some tethering) with no extra charges.

Signal at home is a bit flakey so I use their wifi calling app. they offered a signal booster but wanted to move me to a 12 month contract. I also had a 3 month data sim in a dongle which was obv excellent too.

100% agree. 10 years ago I swore never to touch them again.....I got tempted back 2 years ago and will never leave unless they ramp up their prices.

3 told me that they do not allow tethering. I asked them how they would know but the guy just shrugged.

Oh they know all right. Some of their plans do allow it

Bit of a bummer that. So, if I need to tether abroad, I need to keep my T-Mobile PAYG just for that and 3 for everything else.

That's right, no tethering unless specified in the contract.

There must be an app that gets around this though.

You can buy a £20 PAYG sim which has the 321 deal preloaded with 30 days unlimited data, 3000 sms and 300 mins. They also offered a £10 offer to extend it for another month, and the allowances are usable in their abroad offer too smile

I am tempted to move, but I'm not convinced about the reliability. I had a PAYG SIM for a recent trip to the US, but had a few days where the roaming data didn't work, restarting the phone etc didn't fix it. I'd also be concerned about signal strength in the UK, especially in the countryside - what is that like?
