Any recommendations on freeware backup to backup from my pc to a qnap nas. The qnap netbak replicator utility is very slow. I have tried syncback free which is great for speed but won't backup open files, so what next??

How much is your data worth ?

SyncbackSE is $39.99 (~£27) and looks to support copying open files.

If you still want to look for alternatives you need to find one that supports "Shadow Copy" or "Volume Snapshot Service" (VSS). You also need to be running NTFS as your filesystem (which has been default since Vista I think).

I've used Dirsync a few times over the years, fairly simple but means it's easy to test the backups and restore from them. Not sure how well it'll handle open files on Windows, I use it on other platforms.
