Does anyone have recommendations for external speakers or a soundbar for a late 2012 iMac 27"?
I ordered an Xtrememac Tango soundbar but was disappointed with the sound quality, it lacked bass and was tinny on the treble, not even as good as the built in speakers on the Mac!
All suggestions greatly received.

I've got the original Harman-Kardon Soundsticks, which sound lovely. The current model is the Soundsticks III. They're a 2.1 setup so you have a subwoofer for all the bass you could ever want.

Thanks, they look very interesting. I have seen others recommending them so may well go in this direction.

Another vote for soundsticks. Bought my GF some 9 years ago and they are still going strong.

I've always thought TV soundbars were over-hyped and/or over-priced. One TV's earphone output goes to a pair of PC speakers and one goes into my main stereo and its large, 100W speakers.
I've seen PC speakers offered on Freecycle so it has to be worth a try.

..or for something a bit more "traditional", the MicroLab FC330

I use a pair of MA-10 Roland/Edirol powered monitor speakers at home.

Were about £90 when I bought them 10 years ago.

+1 for Harman-Kardon!

Best £100 I have ever spent - They sound really good!
