I have been reviewing 2015 911S cars on PistonHeads for sale recently and nearly 99% of them are PDK Transmission. I find this quite surprising, why is this?

The short answer is that the PDK is a brilliant transmission. For 99% of people, 99% of the time, it is a better gearbox than the manual. The long answer will likely be offered by others on this forum in short order.

It makes it a real pain trying to find a secondhand manual when you dislike pdksmile.

I agree with everything above. People just prefer PDK., although I don't think it helped that the 7 speed manual in the 991 was not reviewed well in the press. I believe that Porsche have ironed out many of the initial criticisms but it just isn't a popular transmission choice anymore.

Traffic jams, personally I prefer manual boxes but if you spend a lot of time in traffic jams a transmission without a clutch pedal is easier to live with.

The only other reason could be, can you achieve the blisteringly quick 0-60 times with a manual box without premature wear or damage.

Because they are bought in the main with a view to resale by aspirational twunts simply because they are a 911.

Not because they enjoy the pleasure of man interacting with machine threading the A40 west of Brecon.

There, that ought to do it.

If you buy a new 991 speccing black interior, silver paint and manual box I predict that will be an easy sell in say 3'years.

My previous car (Alpina B3 BiTurbo) had a brilliant semi auto box, especially in sport mode. I attended a Experience day at Silverstone Centre and test drove a Cayman GTS I personally thought the gear changes in the PDK were fractionally slower than that of the Alpina.

Having experienced a semi Auto box for a few years now I have found as being a driver you miss interaction and skill of using a manual box. Surly having a sports car its about the involvement you and the car have together.

I also wonder if the majority of the year old cars on offer for sale are mostly ex domo cars that the dealers have configured themselves thinking that this what the majority of customers want?

What percentage of new car buyers are getting a Porsche for the drive and what percentage are getting it for image etc?

I'm guessing that lies at the heart of the issue to a good degree.

The current 991 models are far removed from the original '911' - far more cossetting GTs, and modern motoring and Porsche's growing demographic probably prefer PDK. It is very good but, like all the chassis aids, it makes decisions for the driver.

Unfortunately, the alternative 7-spd manual isn't considered that good, so PDK has become the default option.

However, it is one of the contributory factors fuelling demand for the best 'manual' variants of the earlier 911 models. The real 911 enthusiasts still want the engagement and involvement you can really only get from a lovely manual box.
