Rumours from a well-trusted source in the states have said there will be no "iphone 7" this yea,r instead an alternative play on the 6 series so Apple can release an all new "more apecial" iphone 7 for the iphones 10 th anniversary next year, also tlak of the new/revision 2 year cycle becoming a 3 year one....
I've heard that as well, that this year's iPhone is more likely to be a 6S-S as it were, rather that the iPhone 7. The launch of the iPhone SE earlier this year showed that there is still a market for a three (effectively four) year old design, and as 2017 is the 10th anniversary of the iPhone, it kind of makes sense to hold off from an all-new design until then.

When it comes to hardware, companies like Samsung/LG/Sony have always been ahead of apple with development, so when the first Android devices come along with such technology, Apple will quickly follow.
Well rehearsed Android soundbite
Whether he is right or not, I don't see why it's always touted as a negative thing. Let someone else test the market and then release something similar that's polished and easy to use. Good for the consumer and good for the company I'd have thought.

It took all of 1 second to know that wasn't an Apple video or product. It's so badly done it's laughable.

there are lots of "well trusted sources" in apple product rumour discussions but the ones that are trying to convince people they have some kind of scoop are pretty much always wrong. Apple are pretty good at hiding stuff.

Not really, I just don't like the fact some people make it very "us against them" with Android and iOS. I don't own an Apple phone and I have no desire to, but that doesn't stop me recognising that they make solid phones that work very well and have advantages and disadvantages just like every other brand of phone.

I'm looking forward to seeing the new iPhone same as I look forward to seeing the new Samsung, LG, HTC etc. It's true that it's probably going to just be a bit faster and a bit more powerful with a slightly better camera, but that's all phones released these days. It's still fun to anticipate what they might come up with even if it doesn't actually happen.

I have used both systems. They both have their positives and negatives.

Personally, I now use an Android based phone. I used to have Apple products with my old job.

Well just to give a well rounded opinion. I use both, and hate them both thoroughly smile

I have a list of issues with both, and neither are close to being good enough for me. So definitely no fan boy here!

Agreed. I use apple because of the fact I run a MacBook and have carplay in the car. Im not concerned about really niche functionality

not sure why phones tend to inspire the "war" either really. You don't tend to get Mercedes drivers wading into BMW threads and crowing about how they aren't the ultimate driving machine and the drivers must be stupidz etc

On the other hand, pork fans do tend to do that on Lotus threads. smile

Re audio plug. The cynic in me says its is for the increased revenue. Less metal used in the device so cost saving there, same price or greater and people will need a dongle (they will get lost or damaged and need replacing). More lootage. The cult of iThings is being milked or actual innovation?

Anyone else fitting the lightning connector or is it going to be like the thunderbolt connection?

For a couple of years I've been telling people that the next big development in mobile phone tech needs to be an expanding screen. Although I've no idea how you'd make it work.
I was working on something back in 2007 https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=aJyIhA9sOPw as you can guess it didn't take off but the technology has improved miles.

Samsung and LG are looking to start production but I'm not too sure what could use them. I think that they are able to be rolled up but the radius seems to be similar to rolling up a poster rather than being able to be used in a phone at the moment. Watches could be a market but this would help production and design rather than being flexible to the user imo.

Flexible/transparent OLED seems to always be "about ready for production" and has been for about 5 years.

Rather than just making stuff that rolls up, any ability to flex with help the damage protection of the phone immeasurably.

Still have mine - Got it the day they came out. It's getting a bit long in the tooth now though so I'll probably get a 7.
