"Highest ever rating from DxOMark". Nope, equal highest, tying with the SGS7 and from the numbers it has the same score as the Sony Z5.

DXO are well proven to be useless and I'd tend to ignore them.

The HTC 10 is probably a pretty good all round device, but I doubt it'll have a truly decent camera.

Already got a One M8 and to be honest not sure I'd get another HTC phone. Not been all that impressed with it to be honest. I was going to get a 6P but I went to the store to see it in the flesh and its bloody massive! So thats out. I think for me vanilla android is the only way to go, regular updates and the most bloat free experience.

My One M8 has nearly filled its storage and its mostly apps from google and HTC that can't seemingly be uninstalled, only rolled back and half of them duplicate functions! Also home sense is constantly wigging out and crashing on me. Have to restart the phone every 2-3 days to keep it running smooth and stable. Not really on for a high end phone in my opinion. So the 10 might be great out of the gate but in a years time I reckon it'll be just like what I have now. A load of balls.
They're all doing that now, the phones come with the apps baked into the ROM, so that storage space is gone. As soon as the app gets updated part of that used storage becomes obsolete, eventually the entire app has been replaced, but you still have the out of date version clogging your ROM. And you're right, it's often half-baked duplicate apps that Google have done better already.

The phone should come with nothing but the OS, then ask you what apps you want and go and get them. 32Gb phone was almost full quite quickly and I don't have it piled up with apps or games and moved everything I could to the SD card. They don't do a 64GB version because of the SD card, but then they took native storage out of Marshmallow. Nice one Sony! Fortunately Marshmallow managed to free up 2gb more space so I've been OK since that arrived, but I know eventually I'll have to cull some useful apps to keep the phone working.

I used HTC from the XDA II up to the first HTC One, but now they're no better than the altenatives and seem to be worse for having issues not engineered out. I sacked them off after my camera went pink on the One and they didn't want to know about it.

Looks nice and the specs seem very good. Will it be enough to halt the decline though?

I like their focus on audio and the removal of bloatware from the ROM. If the fingerprint scanner is the Home button it's in the wrong place (the placement of the Nexus 6P's on the back is great, Sony put it in the power button under your right thumb which is even better in my view). It's also interesting that they've returned to a physical Home button after on-screen for so long. It also means the buttons don't move when you rotate and that's something I'd now miss.

Overall it looks like a reasonable evolution, if not revolution. If the camera's as good as they're claiming, that'll solve one of the biggest complaints about HTC's phones in recent years. If they do a GPE edition it could be on the radar although I've no major complaints about my 6P.

Audio is handy, but as per imaging, it doesn't really sell the device - won't make a blind bit of difference to the decline other than a brief blip in the sales that is typical of a new product launch. Reversing the decline would be a marketing thing - HTC just don't have a great image (despite some pretty good products), nor do they typically have decent product placement in stores either.

I've been holding out for this, previous smartphones were Desire, Sensation, One (M7). The M7 has been great but the camera died recently Would like to stick to HTC but I can't say I'm too wowed by this release. Why didn't they make it water/dust proof? The s7 seems to get excellent reviews, great camera and the waterproof selling point whereas this is just more of the same.

Ok, well I'm not blown out of the water.

This new home button makes it look too similar to the Galaxy S from the front, I'm not a fan of it.

I'm sure we will find out soon enough, but it looks pretty good from a spec point of view - 10% larger sensor pixels than the S7 and G5, similar aperture lens to the S7, OIS front and rear. DxO may not be the be-all-and-end-all but I'm prepared to bet that if the camera was woeful they wouldn't rate it so highly.

Personally I love the look of the new HTC 10. The One M7 was my favourite smartphone ever, and as long as the 10 doesn't have any nasty surprises I'm chopping in my S6 as soon as. Waterproofing would be nice, but it does affect speakers performance (S7 does not have great speaker performance). I'd rather have good sound if it came down to choosing personally.

Have HTC finally sorted a competitive phone? Hope so!

Agree 100%. When I bought my M7, every phone store I entered tried to sell me an S3 and seemed incredulous that I would want an M7. They would finally lead me past all the S3 displays, posters and screens flashing up the S3 to a dark corner, where a non-working model of an HTC One was lying forlornly... but it didn't change the fact it was my favourite phone ever.

DXO gave the same top marks to the Z5 - which really is all the proof you need of their lack of credibility.

Interesting you mention waterproofing and speakers - I tend to find the speakers in my Z5C to be pretty good, and they're waterproof.

I've got an M8 through EE. My phone is full of unwanted apps that cannot be uninstalled normally. Is there a way to get ride of them? It really grates that so much of the built in memory is used by noncense that I never use which means I can't install the apps I actually want!

You'll have to root it and install the stock ROM or even better a custom ROM. You can get step-by-step instructions on the XDA forums.

Could also convert it to the One M8 Google Play Edition which would be stock Android like the Nexus - if foxsasha is after no bloatware and such this would probably be the best route?

M8 with GPE installed is really good.

Overall the reviews of the phone I've seen last night and this morning seem very positive. It's clear HTC have thought a lot about the 10 after the lacklustre M9 and as such I hope they do well with the 10, they deserve to. I just hope they haven't left it too late.

H I'm not sure how the M9 fared battery-wise.
I have the M9 after upgrading from the M7 (sensation XE before that, from HD2, from Diamond, from Wizard...)
Battery life - i easily get a workday plus travel - listening to google music all day, plus added reading kindle on the tram each way. Weekends - can get through a race meeting with about 30% left - but thats mainly down to the really poor signal around there. if i switch into airplane mode, then it'll only drop a few % per hour.

I dont get the lackluster reviews of it, sure it wasnt a great leap from the M8, but being on a 2 year contract, coming from the M7 it is brill. I just miss the original Zoe camera function that was removed from the M7 camera during an update.

I think the criticism wasn't of the M9 itself, only that it wasn't really anything better than the M8 it supposedly replaced. The design and features stagnated, HTC themselves said they served up the same thing for at least a year too long.

In the meantime, Samsung, LG, Sony, Huawei et al moved the game on as far as design and features were concerned.

Well after a very long stint with htc since the Google G1 I've just ordered a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. I'm still very apprehensive and feel a little bit guilty but I need something that is dust and waterproof for work..........I'll see how it goes though as I think I might get cold feet and not open the box biggrin

The Z5 speakers are merely OK I found - lacking in power and clarity but better than the S7's. HTC 10 camera sounds like it needs an update (surprise surprise) - autofocus woes in low light, but is looking pretty good.

Think I may ditch my S6 for one. Samsung make great phones but they just don't do it for me like HTC - like VW and Alfa Romeo I suppose. Everyone knows the VW is technically better, but you always feel special in an Alfa.

So anyone bought one? Some reasonable deals going - Mobiles.co.uk have it for £31/month with 3GB data on O2.

Very tempted to replace my aged HTC One.
