One for the boss, the other for Mum.

It isn't as if they just knocked it up on the back of a fag packet.

4 Years and 50 Million on R&D and British jobs... and taxes etc etc etc
50 million. To produce a glorified fan?
bks.

R+D is tax deductable. Hell, there's even tax credits - so the motivation to call all spend R+D is clear.

IF the mill cost really is as low as 30 quid, then the margin contribution per unit is 210 quid. They really expecting to sell 1/2 a million of these?
I like the look of it but agree with some Gump, how on earth did it take 4 years and £50 million to produce ? Assuming that the figure includes multi impression injection mould tooling for volume production, R&D costs and multi stage development prototyping, then 6-8 months and £125k would still be excessive.

Dyson isn't a 'me too' designer and has had some interesting ideas, invests in universities etc etc but £300.00........ for a hairdryer......... its still only some relatively cheap of painted clamshell mouldings, some buttons, a mains cable, a small motor and a switch. Add some pretty packaging < £15.00 to make.....£100.00 retail.

To put things into perspective, you can but a decent washing machine for £150 and a good one for £300. When you consider of the bill of materials, and the far more complex mechanical engineering involved in the washing machine relative to the dryer, the Dyson pricing is hard to justify..........

No they didn't. Those things were in use in Japan at least 12yrs ago. I remember going into the facilities in a bar in Tokyo and being amazed...

I wonder if it will be as appalling designed as their Airblade V?
..
Truly terrible. Especially if installed over a sink! OK if you're wearing darker trousers, but beyond that, expect supersonic splatter.
I like the V blade thing. Not sure how/why it'd be installed over a sink, it's hip high.

Why not? Is it the water drips?

WTF has that got to do with whether you rate the products of not.

We have a Dyson vacuum cleaner - fking awful thing it is too. Sure, it may suck very well, but the rest of the design is an ergonomic catastrophe - too top heavy, add-on tools too easy to knock off, extending hose too short and too springy so it follows you round like a lost puppy banging into the the back of your legs and won't reach to the top of the stairs. Seriously flawed and overpriced POS mad

Just wait six months, then get one off the local market as a cheap Chinese copy.
Job jobbed!

Is anybody really going to pay £300 for a hair dryer, are you aware of the story of Jack & the Beanstalk?

If so............ would you like to buy some magic beans? wink

I like the look of them! It's pricey but apparently it's very light compared to other ones and has a funky design.

No idea why people are kicking up a fuss, no more expensive than an Apple product if you cross into a different type of product.

Indeed, that was implicit, but clearly ignored in favour of petty point scoring.

yeah of course - they're shaped like that so you stick your chappie through the hole in the centre.

100% This!

And now I have a Miele cat and dog job. So much better in every way. Plus just lobbing the bag away is actually easier than dumping a cylinder full into bin/atmosphere

That's exactly my take on then.
Whilst the suction side of it may be revolutionary, the rest of it is a design disaster.

Going back to the hair dryer, I can't help but think putting the air inlet right where you want to hold the thing may lead to some problems.
