Hi,

At our workplace, we have to have our hard drives encrypted by using bitlocker. After getting sick and tired of taking stuff home on a usb stick to copy onto my hard drive, I decided to just encrypt my hardrive at work.

It started off ok, but it was taking too long. I left my PC on overnight thinking it will be all encrypted by the morning. Unfortunately not.

The machine has somehow switched itself off overnight and now I get an error on my hardrive with all copies of my work for the last years gone!!

I spoke to our IT who couldn't really do anything about it. I have the password and 48 digit passcode but neither work. Time to get a data recovery specialist. How much should this cost and is there anyone reliable in West Yorkshire?

Many thanks in advance

Have you tried a bitlocker repair ?

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee5232...

and where's your backup ? It may be the only way.

Yes, I've tried to use the bitlocker repair tool but for some reason the hard drive doesn't recognise my bitlocker password or data recovery key frown

Anyone had any good experience with a data recovery specialist?

We're based in Leeds and used Data Clinic (dataclinic.co.uk) about 4 years ago to recover data from a damaged bitlocker encrypted drive. Cost £300. No physical workshop in Leeds - they used an accommodation suite on Geldard Road which, frankly, didn't fill me with confidence at the time when I dropped the machine off. Nevertheless they did the business, did it quickly and I'd certainly recommend them.
