I have used google maps to create a route across Wales over a few days. The problem is, the map seems temperamental when loading on my phone? Is there any reason for this? I've updated my iOS and version of maps. There aren't too many 'layers' or complexities to the map as it's pretty straight forward.

This opens fine on any web browser but not on my phone. Any ideas?

Have people come across any alternative apps/software to use? Also, as a few friends will be using this so it would be good if I could share the map with other users, as I don't fancy leading the whole way.

Navmii

I use it as a back up incase I cant get a signal.

Stores downloaded maps on phone, so best done over wifi.

Don't like the interface but serves a purpose.

Waze is awesome, I've been using it for years and it just works brilliantly. You can also share your drives with people.

You mention iOS so presumably its an Apple phone, doesn't Apple have their own map application, if you're finding google's too problematic (I don't know why though, it's run fine on one of my really old entry level Android phones ok) are you using a really old iPhone?

HERE maps is good (I'm not sure if it's available on iOS though)

Thanks will try some of the above.

I use Waze to direct me to a point but want to take a route which is not the quickest or shortest. Does it allow me to do that without creating many detours?

Not that old I think. iPhone 6?

I've been using TyretoTravel for years to plan routes as it uses google maps and then upload to the nav but they've just released a new version for smart devices https://www.myrouteapp.com/en Only had chance for a little play but looks to have most features you'd need for free. I like to plan on the big screen monitor at home and upload to the bmw nav.
Not used Waze but looking at the Waze site I can see why Tyre are going that way, be interesting to compare. Think Tyre has a good following in Europe particularly with bikers.

HERE Maps - from Android store / Windows store - not sure if IOS too.
Works offline with local SD card maps - really good - I use it as a backup to Goorgle / car satnav.

HERE is on iOS, but unless things have improved recently I wouldn't reccomend it. I used it to test it and it had already send me the wrong way within half a mile of home.

I used to think Google maps was the be all and end all of sat nav, until 2 weeks ago we drove 950km to Sweden.......It was awful, laggy , incorrect and just plain crap.

Used Waze on the return trip, it was perfect.

Waze is owned by google, and much of the data is shared between both... just saying.

Can't fault maps tbh and use it all the times in Europe.

Several years ago going to Italy I've bought CoPilot, it was very good but a lot less POI (hotels, restaurants) if that's your thing.

While driving about Shropshire the other week in a rental car with no sat nav, I tried Waze which took some weird and wonderful turns to avoid traffic (some "lovely" estates round Liverpool!") Apple maps - worse than Waze and settled on google maps as the best of the 3.
