I look after a small public Wifi network. I have a few devices I cannot ID, there are about 4 starting NP- for example NP-32556N0634** . They are downloading lots so I guess they are steaming video etc. Probably kids.

Anyone know what these devices are?

Could be Roku streaming boxes - http://forums.roku.com/viewtopic.php?p=324669&...

It seems the host name can't be changed, so if it's a problem you may be able to block them using it.

If you can get the MAC addresses then you can see who manufactured them.

Try putting the host name in your browser. The devices might have a front end.

What sort of setup is this (cafe, shop, etc...)

Heavy streaming over a public Wi-Fi is not ideal as it'll slow things down for everyone else. Any houses nearby? Could someone be leeching off free Wi-Fi?

What sort of router is this? Personally, if they're using a lot of bandwidth I'd be looking to setup bandwidth control to these particular devices until they can be ID'd.

Thanks, yes could be Roku, although I have seen some Roku boxes, as they do show up a Roku.

Not a real issue, I have bandwidth control on, can block them if they take the p. It's a small holiday park, so transient users.

In that case it could be a router that re-broadcatss the signal. We sometimes use one. This means that we only have to pay once instead of for each device. Also as I use an external aerial, it means I can get better signal strength than using the wifi on the phone direct to site wifi. The high usage could deb because there are multiple devices connected to it.
