I need some help…

I have a domain thats registered with one.com.
I’ve been with one.com for years and it’s been great the whole time - no complaints. One.com deal with my domain and email accounts but I don’t actually host a website with them - that’s hosted on Squarespace and one.com redirects as appropriate.

My question is, I currently pay for hosting I don’t use (apart from email) which seems a waste. I'm also looking to transfer my email accounts to Google Apps to take advantage of some of the other features Google offer. Therefore I won't be utilising the hosting or email I pay for so I'm wasting money.

Is there a registrar out there who will hold my domains (a .com and .co.uk) allow me to point the www. to Format - my new web host - and have my emails hosted with Google Apps?

OR, am I doing this all wrong and I should be looking at a different solution?

I'm changing hosts from Squarespace to Format because I'm a photographer and Format includes client proofing online which is something I don't currently have but want to offer my clients.

My last invoice from one.com was £27.36 per domain and I pay roughly this much once a year. This included 15GB web space and the annual .com domain renewal.

Google Apps is going to be £3.30 a month, Format is £12 a month. Squarespace is currently $7 a month.

Many hosting companies can also just act as domain registrars i.e. you don't necessarily have to take out a hosting package as well. I'm not sure if one.com offer this but you could ask them.

If not then you just need to find another web registrar and transfer your domains over, then change your nameserver settings and setup your DNS records as required.

Each bit can be handled by different companies. I have domains registered with Register1 (soon to be moving), websites hosted at TSOhost, email running on MS Exchange and use cloudflare for CDN purposes. Its relatively straight-forward, and quite likely one can do that for you.

Namecheap is a good option and never go with Godaddy.
