Been using the beta version on my Nexus 6P and Nexus 9 since Beta 3 (found 1 and 2 far too buggy)

Just booted my Nexus 9 to see if it would push and nothing.. Nexus 6P is currently updating.

Not expecting anything to have changed from Beta 5 really.

For anybody who wants the update a little quicker...

You can join the Android Beta programme here: https://www.google.com/android/beta

If you have a suitable device, scroll down and you will see an option to 'Enrol Device'. Select this and within a few seconds, you will get a prompt on your Android device to download the final (stable) version of Android 7.0 Nougat.

Don't worry about the warning that states "If you opt out when your device is running a beta version of Android, all user data on the device will be wiped." This will not apply, as the update that you will be pushed is a final version (not a beta) - hence you are free to opt out as soon as you've installed the update and your device will not be wiped.

I did it earlier this evening on my Nexus 6P. Opted in to the beta programme, was pushed the final version of Nougat 7.0, installed it, then opted straight out of the beta programme. All perfect and love 7.0 so far.

I saw that recommended on reddit. I was tempted, but with a 5X on Project Fi, I'm actually more curious to see how long it takes to get offered 'legitimately'.

Can you do the Beta thing on an Android Tablet as well? My Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro has never updated since the day I brought it. Would be nice to bring it up to date.

It'll only work with some of the latest Google Nexus devices I'm afraid.

best thing you can do is get on XDA forums and see what they are offering, Cynagenmod might be your best bet.

Mum and Sisters tablets were stuck on Android 4.4, I managed to find a custom rom upto Android 6.0

This was one large reason why I bought a nexus device. I like the '18 months from end of sale' updates.

I'm doing exactly this as I type...!

Edit: my phone didn't like it. Do I need to root to be able to do this (I'm not currently)...

I wasn't rooted and it worked for me. Which bit are you getting stuck on?

Following the reboot after processing the (verified) system update package I got the red exclamation mark over the Android with 'No Command'. The phone farted a couple of times then rebooted back to 6.0.1.

I'm making it do it again, let's see what happens; am about to restart.

Seems to be installing...

....and working. Dare I say I've not noticed much difference really? Surprised it's a full version leap from 6 to 7.

There's a good summary of the changes here. But, I would agree that from a user experience perspective, it's not a huge leap (although there's quite a few 'under the hood' changes I suppose).

For me, the best functionality so far is the ability to change the display size (Settings, Display, Display Size) so that you can fit more info on the screen. I've now got it set to 'Small' on my Nexus 6P and it makes it much easier to see everything at a glance.

It's very much an iOS style upgrade; widely advertised and lauded, adds about two features that other O/S have had for years.

A new JIT compiler, support for JAVA 8 and new VR api are not a minor upgrade. The really big features of Nougat won't become apparent until the first devices are released supporting Tango; the first of which is in September.

Been running for a couple weeks on my 6P.

Some nice features, but TBH it feels more like a '5.3' rather than '7.0', not a huge change from Lollipop IMO.

I can only guess they're moving to a 'rapid release cycle' like Chrome/Firefox etc. with rapidly increasing version numbers.

Upgraded my Pixel C last night, pretty uneventful. Multitasking looks nice, and is on par with IOS. That's, er, about it really.
