Has anyone got any comments on the normal size iPhone vs the plus? Is a plus easy to live with?
I have a normal size 6 which always feels a too small for me when doing emails etc. I had a 5 inch android phone for a while and really liked that screen size. So if I get a 7 plus will it feel absolutely huge to me? They look so big and unwieldy but the bigger screen would suit me I think???? I don't wear skinny jeans and also don't carry a man bag to lug it around in!

One thing to note I've found is that, as far as 5.5" phones go, the iPhone Plus is bigger than most. But not unmanageble.
You do give up one-hand operation for a lot of extra screen though.
This website is a godsend for getting an idea of a phone's size:

This is an iPhone (4.7"), an S7 Edge (5.5") and an iPhone Plus (5.5").

Personally it's a little big, I like the screen size but not being able to type at all one handed really is a bit annoying for me. But I do have fairly small hands. I can do it if I lean the phone towards my palm but I have to loosen my grip to reach the farside of the keyboard, and obviously it's not something I'd do where dropping would be an issue. I'm caseless as well, not sure if it would be better or worse with a case.
I wouldn't go back however.

Really, really good phone.I was holding out with an S5 until Feb when the S8 is due (I think), but a mishap before Christmas necessitated a change. iPhone's too expensive for what it offers. The S7 edge is lovely (and "cheap" at present as it's due to be replaced).
Feels much higher quality than the S5 and very comparable to the iPhone. Smaller overall size to the Plus but with the same sized screen is useful too.

I went from an iPhone 6 to a 7 Plus and absolutely love the jump in screen size. The more optimised apps use the additional space efficiently (more information, more buttons, different layout etc).I have a normal size 6 which always feels a too small for me when doing emails etc. I had a 5 inch android phone for a while and really liked that screen size. I tend to wear slim fit clothing and find it fits in all pockets quite comfortably. One handed use is possible; I find I'm resting the phone on my pinkie finger to support it, otherwise it's two handed use.
I think what makes a difference initially is whether you want a larger phone or are dipping your toe into the water, idea-wise. I already knew I wanted the 7 Plus and after only a few hours of use, I found my old 6 a bit dinky, and my even smaller work iPhone 5s is now toy-like.

I found the normal sized 6 perfect and only bought a 7+ for novelty purposes and longer lasting battery.I can no longer put the 7+ in my pocket and it's a tad too big for some compartments BUT I love the phone so I think you would too.
However i'll probably go for a smaller phone next time - either an 8 or a middly-sized one! Hopefully they bump up the DPI in the 8.

Is it really necessary though? I found the screen in the iphones perfectly adequate, only when held next to a high-end phone you really see the difference.AMOLED would make a much bigger difference imho.

Well you get 1,920 x 1,080 (6/7+) versus 1,334 x 750 (6/7) but it's on the limit of your visual ability to resolve.AMOLED would make a much bigger difference imho.
Does it make a difference? - I do notice the extra screen area and the IPS LCS is damn good - colours on the 7+ are supposedly even better.
I had the 6 plus from launch, although I enjoyed the screen size I found the size of the phone just too obtrusive. When the 7 launched I decided to drop down to the standard size and found I am a lot more comfortable carrying it in my pocket. My wife and daughter both have the 7 plus and would not change as they are able to carry them in their bags. It all down to personal preference and whether you feel comfortable carrying a man bag

It's absolutely good, but things have moved on and it's about on par with, for example a Moto G4.Does it make a difference? - I do notice the extra screen area and the IPS LCS is damn good - colours on the 7+ are supposedly even better.
Next to an S7 Edge it's still ok but the S7 still has the edge (pun intended).
If you want to keep on asking top level prices, "good enough" just doesn't cut it. OLED has a lot of tricks up it's sleeve, thinner implementation (smaller bezels, curveability), absolute blacks and vibrant colours. Earlier versions (eg S2) did suffer from oversaturation and blue-ish whites but these days are well gone.
Biggest issue with OLED is cost. In general they cost a lot more than an IPS display. That's why there's no cheap phone with OLED, all have IPS (and a lot of them 1080p now).
IMHO it's the only reason the iPhone still uses an IPS, cost cutting.
The only pro for the consumer is that screen replacements are usually a lot cheaper than say, a high end Samsung.

With any other manufacturer I would agree, but Apple don't do cheap (according to Jobs' philosophy anyway) and I think they just decided not to make the move yet. LCD has some advantages in power consumption [iOS has lot of white] and colour balance [something they also do really well on MacBooks]. If they can sort these issues on AMOLED and get production volumes to boot then it makes sense imo to switch.Edited by fido on Thursday 12th January 13:48

With regards to OLEDs, there are also yield issues and they don't have the longevity of LCD.
Yield issues are the main reason cost is higher, but it doesn't stop most high end phones from using them. We have a couple of S2's still running without issues, so I think longevity shouldn't be a problem in a smartphone. Maybe for tvs though.
I'm just saying that, holding an S6 next to a 6S, I really expected the 7 to have an AMOLED display.

My Mrs has the iPhone plus whilst I have the 6S normal size. Whilst the plus is better for browsing emails etc. it is a big old thing to carry in a pocket. The Mrs doesn't mind because she carries it in a handbag but I couldn't be doing with it at that size, it has better battery life though.

My 7Plus (even without a case) wouldn't go in my front jeans pocket as comfortably as my 6 did, but other than that it's easy to live with and much preferable for browsing/emails, satnav use etc. The extra battery life and Portrait mode on the camera are also welcome bonuses.

LOL as they say, when I got my iphone 7+ my mate just took the proverbial telling me I had a 'handbag phone'.The Mrs doesn't mind because she carries it in a handbag but I couldn't be doing with it at that size, it has better battery life though.
But in my defence, my son had nicked my ipad, I do more data stuff than calls so I wanted the biggest screen I can get.
Rock solid performance so far, yep you pay the apple tax but that's life, I'm doing a project for work at the minute and it's great that I can get out of the office and tether my laptop etc, yes I know this is basic but new way of working for me.
