As a self confessed Apple fan I ordered a 7 in matt black for pick up today - I know the upgrades are not exactly life changing from the 6s but I really like the matt black. I should get £400 for my unlocked space grey 64gb (3 year JL warranty), so yes the £199 to upgrade is probably a waste of cash but I use my phone constantly and fancy a change. The camera on the 7S really appeals but I don't think I could get used to the size.

TBH I can't see Apple allowing that to happen.
I'm not sure what control they have over apps, what's permitted through their APIs, etc, but if a camera app happened to take two similar photos and use them to work out a depth map using their own techniques, then can Apple stop them?

Maybe the answer is yes, but maybe it's a no!

Just a thought really. I don't particularly need the bokeh filter on 99% of the photos I take anyway, and I like my matte black 7.

Apple have total control over their app ecosystem and if you have an app which does what is already done by one of the stock apps then they can and probably will not allow it onto the app store.

What Tyco said, they control the app store very well and I think it is a developer term that you are not allowed to mimic or reproduce 'exclusive' phone features. If you put an app out for the iphone you cannot load it to the app store and release it. You submit it to apple for review and approval, if they say no, then it's a no. simple.

For example no companies were allowed to make a rival voice assistant available in the app store when the iphone 4S came out, in case iphone 4 owners downloaded it and obtained an 'exclusive' new feature. (In fact I think apple pulled a voice assistant program from the app store not long before the 4s launched?)

I've been running the beta ios with the portrait mode, it does take a very decent picture, for a phone -

Taken one handed whilst waving the other hand trying to get his attention.
Impressive. Most impressive.

A few sample shots I saw from 10.1's first beta release, the portrait mode occasionally flaked out when hair was concerned, but it looks to have nailed it in your shot.

e

I think that is a brilliant shot, I know someone kind of took it to pieces, however they obviously know what they are looking for; for the every day person, that shot is fantastic.

Very fine hair and mesh etc will be its biggest challenge, either through the camera struggling to pick it up in its depth map, or how it masks the object when blurring the background etc.

Got my 7 .. upgrading from the 6S

Like the haptic feedback in lists etc
Home button seems quicker to 'click'
Battery life seems a bit better
Seems to be more 'bokeh' in certain situations?

Not noticed any speed improvement due to the beefier CPUs, but haven't done much gaming yet

Annoying - 6S case didn't fit
£9 on another Lightning to 3.5mm for work
Had to set up Touch ID and all my credit cards again

Not a huge change, but I might be convinced further if I drop it in the bath one day hehe

Anyone know of a 'Bluetooth to 3.5mm' adapter? I.e something to allow 3.5mm plug fitted headphones to work via Bluetooth?

I'm awaiting delivery on one of these. Will share some thoughts once I've tested it out.

touch disease. To be honest my Macbook has developed what could well be a fault with the touchpad, where it just decides to stop working entirely for about 60 seconds. It does come back, but in that time it doesn't take input and it doesn't offer the haptic feedback either. Perhaps we are all testers of the haptic v1.0 software. More like v0.9.

I couldn't answer a phone call yesterday, slide to answer wouldn't do anything.

I've had it before on my old phone as well so assume it's a software glitch, not too worried.

I bought this - works well! That's listening + charging at work sorted. Nice little unit, feels substantial, non slip base and built in microphone - also really good range, at least 15m at home

From what I can work out every now and then the phone will wake up and not respond to touch, like it still thinks it needs to ignore the touch input. Usually not a problem as you just sleep/wake again but when a calls coming in you can't do that.

I came from a 6 plus and it still feels like a nice upgrade

Exactly that problem has happened to me a number of times only to lose the bloody call!

Thought it was me!

Is the battery on the ip7 that much better that the ip6/6s now that people have had theirs to use for a few weeks? Just deciding whether to bother upgrading based on battery life really.
