I dont have it with my HSBC premier benefits because the excess if £50 and to get the screen repaired is only £90 at Apple so why would I bother paying monthly to save £40. It was near renewal time and I actually got a 128gb for free and managed to reduce my tariff cost.

The home button is far better and the chip is faster when compared to a 6. I do wish they'd have made it a few% bigger.

Still not a fan of the new notifications.

Thought I would test out portrait mode. So far I have been pretty unimpressed. The camera seems to struggle with certain edges and you always end up with a blurred line around images.

Plus, it is always in landscape mode!

After deliberating for weeks (and previously leaving the Apple Store when they had a 7 Black in stock) I finally picked a 7 up yesterday.

Coming for a 6 it's difficult to justify the upgrade as apart from the color change it feels very similar. My 6 was getting a bit 'tired' after years of use and the 7 is certainly a bit snappier. I can't help wonder how Apple got away with making so few changes from the 6 / 6S.

Although I do have a shiny new toy so it's not all bad.

hehe The irony is strong in this one.

That said, what do you want them to change?

I think we need to remember this is a handheld phone and not a DSLR, it will also get better I'm sure.

I've been mucking about whilst waiting here at Vienna to fly home and you can alter the bokeh if you focus on different parts of the subject

Still amazing how it does it in real time outlining instantly and pretty accurately yes

I've been using the portrait mode quite a bit recently, outdoors in good light I've been impressed,

It saves two photos, one without the effect and one without,

Heres one with a not very willing subject....

Without effect

With effect

Obviously transparent objects are always going to trip it up as it's basically impossible for it to blur what you can see through the glass without blurring the glass itself.

I'm not knocking the tech and am aware this is very much an early version of the software used to produce these images, but a lot of these portrait mode photos are looking a bit odd to me.

Under ideal conditions (as in Apple's collateral) it's obviously capable of some very good results, but in real life, without some care to the intended effect, framing and background, the effect seems to vary from "hmm, almost" to "bloody awful".

I'd like to know first hand what they're really like, but it seems the "2 to 3 week wait" our broker promised has become 6 weeks and counting. I think he's run off with the money.

No irony, that's just what happened - thought about buying one and....then....bought one.

Erm, a new distinctive design would be a bonus.

that portrait mode, whilst clever technology, seems to consistently produce st results. However you could definitely argue that it's not FOR photography people; it's for snapchat instagram fktards who think F-stop is a type of tampon. To them, it probably looks amazing.
