Before I go ahead with the deal. Can anyone beat £150 upfront and £30.99/mth for 5gb data, unlimited sms and mins?
I think that is a good deal. I pay £11/month for 4GB data, add in the £699 cost of the phone and that is £963 over 24 months, compared to the £894 you have been quoted. You also get an extra 1GB of data and the advantage of not having to pay so much upfront.

I have always bought the phone separately from my contract and made some good savings by doing so, but I might switch back next time.

Yeah. Pay for phone upfront then get a SIM only. Works out cheaper.
But I don't think it does.

Phone is £699, you need to get a helluva SIM deal to get 5GB and unlimited texts/mins for about £8/mo for two years to beat that price. Factor in a network switch in the middle and two shots of cashback on the SIMs and you should just about do it, but it's a lot of faff.

Don't get me wrong, I buy SIM-free and even if it were slightly more expensive I'd probably still do it for the freedom, but that looks a decent deal for what the poster is looking for.

3 was a good option till last Friday, all those nice 30GB plans vanished and all the prices went up between £5 to £10 depending on the phone.

Really? Can you link to a sim only deal which gives 5gb data for under £8.12/mth? I normally go sim only but I could get near to beating that deal.

You could get it on the upgrade program from Apple that way you can move to a new phone every year when the upgrade comes out, S or next number up. Seems a good way to go, not to mention the ongoing apple care.

I was looking at a Three deal that was £9 a month, but couldn't get the phone I wanted, now the phone is available but the deal has gone. Irritating.

Do you have BT Broadband at home? If so, BT Mobile sim only is worth a look:

£10 per month with 4GB data = £120 for the year
- £60 amazon voucher
- £40 Quidco cashback
= £20 per year = £1.67 per month

£20 per month with 15GB data = £240 for the year
- £90 Amazon voucher
- £60 Quidco cashback
= £90 per year = £7.50 per month

If you don't have BT add £5 per month to the above.

Got my 7Plus (128GB) last night. 82% battery left after a whole day. Quite pleased with it - though can't believe I've blown £800+ on a phone. Jeez - let me take it in - that is mental!

Do you use it at all!?

That's mad, you must get 4-5 days out of a charge? I didn't know thst was even possible to be honest, even if the phone is just on standby.

I'm been mostly using it for talking on the phone with headhunters and surfing the Wi-Fi in my local pub. So not just stand-by.

Incidentally it already had 80% charge on it when I got home from the Apple Store to restore it. They just happened to have one in stock - so might be a freshly delivered Apple.

For me one of the main benefits of going sim only is the ability to upgrade the following year for around £250 net after selling the previous year's phone on eBay. Phones are worth significantly less after 2 years.

I'm thinking of getting a 7+ on the weekend. Can you download an alphanumeric keyboard with numbers along the top, for them?

Can't seem to get a straight answer on Google. I'd like to go back to an iPhone, but not to messing around every time I want to enter a number. Postcodes especially!

Picked up an Iphone 7 Plus at John Lewis - the call sound quality seems weird - almost borderline like it's a whatsapp call or a speaker phone....is this a dodgy handset or have others found the same issue? The sound on my Iphone 6 was much more "normal"?

Thanks
Funny you should say that, but I noticed the same thing on my 7 Plus coming from a 6. It's not that I can't hear the other person properly. In fact, I can't put my finger on what it is. But it definitely sounds different. I did move from Vodafone to BT Mobile so just put it down to that, but it might be something to do with the handset. A quick google suggests we are not alone on this.
Following on from this, I've completely got used to people I call sounding "different" now. But my wife has just told me that I sound really muffled when I call her, like I'm under water or something. We've just done a quick test and it seems to be down to the case I'm using but, as far as I can tell, it doesn't cover the microphone at all. The case I am using is this one

Any ideas how that case could affect the call quality from me to other people?

have you tried taking it off and seeing if it changes things?

having done zero research on this, I'm going to guess that the new 'water resistance' / 'water proofing' has probably had some effect on the sound quality of speakers and microphone?

That was my "quick test". My voice is much clearer to the person I am calling when the phone is out of its case (or using the earphones/microphone, which is how I mostly use my phone when working).
