is anyone else finding the home button feedback unusual on solid surfaces? the vibration is transferred to the desk. therefore the button has a different feel all the time between situations.

wonder how they'll work this one out on the next edition

Yeah it feels different as you aren't really gripping the device. Not sure it's enough of an issue for them to do anything about, or even if there's a solution without using more space such as placing the haptic motor behind the home button to give it a more direct feel.

Rumours there won't even be a physical home button of any kind in the next model anyway.

So after all the complaining about Apple removing hte headphone jack on the iPhone 7, it looks like Samsung will be doing the same on the S8 http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/2016/12/07/s...

Yup, when the phone is effectively coupled to a much more massive object (e.g. a hard desk) then the haptic device will not shake the phone but instead the phone & desk together. Obviously as this is a much larger mass it barely makes anything move and we probably don't perceive it moving at all.

It's a bit disconcerting but given the cause there's not really much Apple can do to overcome it.

I was all ready to replace my 128Gb iPhone 6 with a 7 and oh my word they're expensive; no way am I spending what works out at £50 and more a month on a phone. That's crazy money - people on PH sneer at people leasing a BMW for 250 a month ffs!

I'm on O2 friends and family which has always given me a pretty good 30% discount, however they've changed all this round now so you pay for the phone over the term (the "device plan") and then the airtime (the "airtime plan"). The device plan attracts no discount.

I've had every generation of iPhone since the start of 2008 but that's enough - ahm oot!

Is that once you factor in cashback and resale value of your current phone? My deal worked out that going from a 6 to a 7Plus will cost me £375 for the phone, which isn't unreasonable at all.

Well there is that to consider (which I hadn't).

I shall investigate.

I must have posted this earlier in the thread, but I recycled my 6S with O2 for £400 (after they price-matched Mazuma), so my 7 cost me £299.

I got £285 for my 6 64GB which wasn't in great condition to be honest.

Are there still long delays or can I just rock up to my local O2 / 3G / EE store and walk away with a 7+ in a lunch hour?

So, picked up my 7 yesterday. Spent the evening setting up, and all is now good.
What apps do I need to show off my phones capabilities then?

It doesn't do anything amazing really.

Pretty much this. The days of a new phone being able to wow on account of something it does differently/better are long gone.

If you're new to iOS (and from the OP's phrasing I'm guessing that's the case) then the 3D Apple Maps view of somewhere like central London is pretty impressive. With a fast data connection and a modern iOS device it's almost flawless, much smoother than the Google Maps/Earth equivalent.

As for games, with such a small screen it takes over-use of physics/lighting effects to tax modern GPUs so games might look a little better on a 7 compated to a 6 etc. but it's only something you'd notice running side-by-side.

As above - not much.

It's quick... the finger ID being uber fast.

Drop it in a pint of beer - that would show off it's capabilities.

No - I think you need to get a set of those stoopid-looking Bluetooth earbuds to demonstrate to lesser mortals your latest Appleness......

Sounds like they still have teething troubles with them. Each bud is actually considered independent and rather than one bud receiving the BT from the phone and then transmitting data to the other bud, both buds talk to the phone independently on their own BT connections. I think troubles with making sure the two are sync'd (for music) and how to handle one bud being lost or running out of battery before the other.... dunno, sounds like they made themselves a lot of extra work to do.
