The more I look into this, the more I like it. Especially paired with those new fancy wireless Airpods.
Music at the gym, no phone, no wires, no iPod, just your watch. Which is doing its fitness thing at the same time.
Am I missing something?
How far from my iPhone can I expect to be able to be before losing connection?
Yes, you are missing something. Unless you're only doing running at the gym, the Apple Watch is close to useless for measuring heart rate whilst doing weights, cycling, rowing - virtually everything else at the gym.Music at the gym, no phone, no wires, no iPod, just your watch. Unless you buy a bluetooth chest strap HRM and use that - in which case, fine. But otherwise the optical HRM in the Apple Watch is nothing more than a useless flickering light.
I'm thinking of buying one for my wife for Xmas, probably the S2 as she does a fair bit of running, so I imagine the GP features will be better for that. Does anyone know if the Nike edition has special software that won't be available on the normal watch? Or or that can't be replaced with something like Strava?

GPS and being "properly" waterproof will make it a better running assistant than the prior generation, absolutely no doubt at all. There is a Nike+ Run Club app built in, but it looks like that is available for the other versions of the watch. Other than the strap, it looks pretty much the same as other second gen Apple Watches.

Still an attractive buy - will have to look and see what the golf GPS app is like as that's the deal breaker.

If you buy the watch in the Apple Store can you choose straps etc, or are the only ones available to combinations shown online?

Thanks for clearing that up.

This is the thing that annoys me - I think you can only buy the combinations offered? If you buy the watch in the Apple Store can you choose straps etc, or are the only ones available to combinations shown online?
So you then have to pay extra for any different straps you want.
Unless someone knows different?

I really really want a Apple watch but really cant see that it will be life changing / worth the money. I do do alot of walking and with work it maybe better to read messages than get my phone out etc all the time.
Anyone know if its compatible with harrys laptimer?
Why does something have to be life changing? It's not like we're talking thousands of pounds.Anyone know if its compatible with harrys laptimer?
£399 for the top spec. Anything over that and you're just paying for material differences.

Well I presume they will stay in just as well as the usual Apple earphones?
You'd have thought something without the weight of a cable attached to the bottom would be better than those with, no?
Not necessarily.. I guess we'll see. I would've presumed the cable would actually help to keep them in by virtue of pulling down on them? Kindof how a coat hanger with something on would be more likely to stay in place if you shook a wardrobe than one with nothing on?You'd have thought something without the weight of a cable attached to the bottom would be better than those with, no?
Not the best analogy granted...
Wonder when Rolex or similar will take the plunge?
The reason I say this is there is no need at all nowadays for a watch, whatever it does, apart from showing your wealth and taste, ie has become an item of jewelry. So jewelry that gives you extra information that you don't really need to exist, is probably right up their street at £4000 a pop.

I'd like to get one, but it'd have to replace my Fitbit Surge which I use all the time for activity tracking including weights at the gym. Is there any sign that the iWatch's activity tracking has/will be improved?
Otherwise, I'll probably stick with Fitbit.
You need two watches both weighing 5kg and can wear one on each wrist. That would help down the gym.Otherwise, I'll probably stick with Fitbit.

Don't the Surge and Apple devices both use exactly the same technology for heart rate measurement?Otherwise, I'll probably stick with Fitbit.
