iOS10 - wait !

My 6 was fine with iOS 10. Did you do a soft reset (long press on power and home buttons) after the update? That normally cures some post update niggles.
Yes, did the soft reset with no real joy. I've now turned all the special graphics and effects off along with turning off the background refreshing of apps and it's finally become usable again. Bit of a shame that I've lost some of the features of ios10 but at least it's usable now. Email is still troublesome. With regards to using WhatsApp, I use that as well but I'm not keen on the user interface. It might just take some time t get used to. As mentioned above it seems like Androids can also suffer with slowing down over time so I'll probably gain nothing from switching.

The iPhone 7 is ste? Really? In what way? The Note 7 is a brilliant phone, but are you an android user or iPhone user? Because if you are an iPhone user, you may take a while to adapt to android (I did) and don't think the new Galaxy line are perfect, they DO lag. At first, they are ace, but after a few months they start to lag, stutter and freeze. And they seem to overheat and drain the battery without obvious explanation sometimes too. I move to Android from iOS about five years ago, and have had loads of Sammy phones. I just picked up an iPhone SE and love it hugely, and have an iPhone 7 Plus on (back, back, baaaaack...) order. All the reasons I left iOS have now been sorted, and I have to say I love it now. That's not to say I won't go back to Android if they produce an outstanding phone, but the lag and battery was driving me crazy, even if the 1440p screen is nice - although my relatively lo-res SE screen is still absolutely fine for me, and looking at the iPhone 7 Plus screen the other day - it easily matched my Samsung's screen.
The 7 isn't enough of a step forward in any direction, and a big step backwards by ditching the headphone socket, thats a deal breaker for me. Plus for a phone to last most of the way through 2017 a 1080p screen with big bezels is a bit too retro for the price increase. The battery life on my 6s plus is pathetic, its dead by 5 even with charging in the van between jobs, the 7 is only a 5% improvement. I have bought every iphone since the 3g on launch day, and i was all set to want a 7 plus but its too little too late. I had a shot of a oneplus3 and was blown away, and its a fraction of the price. Plus my thumb is the width of 3 keys on the 6s plus keyboard, you would think by now with the success of the big screen phones apple would get the message people want bigger screens. Ios is far from bug free too despite the general opinion apple gear just works the truth is far from it.Edited by OldGermanHeaps on Friday 23 September 19:16

Has anybody put iOS 10 on a 4th generation iPad yet?
I did a search but can't find anything, as it is the oldest model that supports it i don't want to do it if it is going to bugger it up.
Yes - Mrs B has. No reports of anything nasty - and, believe me, we would know if it wasn't good I did a search but can't find anything, as it is the oldest model that supports it i don't want to do it if it is going to bugger it up.
Yes, there was a few things I had to change like the unlock touchid without having to press the button but overall the iOS10 upgrade shows where tech is heading now. Couple of things to note...
Maps destination - Really neat and great use of the tech. Knows when you've driven somewhere, where you've parked and it's just there. Visiting site today so it's telling me where I've parked up and routes to home and regular office.
Photos - face recognition and then following those albums through to sort via trips, location, related people etc
These 2 show how much work has been going on in the background with the OS alone. I don't think hardware upgrades will be as impressive as what is happening in the background the software for the next few years at least.

With the risk of repeating everything all over, these things have been done and are being done in several places over the past years. It's a bit ominous in saying "where tech is going", "where tech has been over the past couple of years" would be a much more correct phrase.Maps destination - Really neat and great use of the tech. I'll tell you where tech is going. In hardware terms, not that much will happen. Better, higher res unlimited contrast displays with slim bezels. Wireless charging and a couple of other nice features.
For software, this is indeed a good precursor. More things will follow, based on your email contents, automatic tracking of packages you've ordered, flights you've booked and automatic notifications ("your package will arrive today", "your flight has been delayed 50 min",...).
A couple of things to come next year I'm sure.

What are you doing with your phone? My 6+ lasts at least 2 days between charges. Unless I were to sit there playing crappy games for hours on end.
6S user. No crappy games at all. No Facebook app. Don't really watch any video.Maybe use the Maps and a reasonable amount of Twitter.
Phone normally makes it just about a day without needing charging (15hrs ish)
You can guarantee if I needed to use Maps or get an email in the evening, the phones battery would die.
I think it's nuts that Apple reduced the capacity of the 6S battery from the 6.
I think it's an incredible piece of kit, I'm just astounded that decent battery life is so far down Apple's priorities.

I'd take it back and get them to either replace the battery or swap the handset. That's shocking and can't be as designed, surely?Maybe use the Maps and a reasonable amount of Twitter.

You've probably thought about this already, but are you checking battery usage and that an update hasn't left Bluetooth on when you didn't need it, checked the screen brightness and snooze settings?Phone normally makes it just about a day without needing charging (15hrs ish).
I'm the opposite, I just use the iPhone for so much I expect it to last only a few hours!!
I have a 6S and it needs charging every day with texts, facebook and email etc.
My bluetooth is on all the time and doesn't drain a noticeable amount.
Have you checked your battery usage? Go to settings, battery then wait for it to load up and it will tell you in percentages and times what is using battery power. Some apps like waze need you to allow location services permanently so even if you don't have the app open, it's using GPS so therefore draining your battery.
