Not feeling this update so much...Messages is much worse, and god help the first person that sends me some animated crap, stickers, or a firework screen.
Top tip: settings --> general --> accessibility --> home button --> turn on 'rest finger to open' .
Exactly my feelings too. I can't see these new message "features" appealing to anyone over the age of 12 - hardly the typical iPhone customer surely?Top tip: settings --> general --> accessibility --> home button --> turn on 'rest finger to open' .
I would think the reason SMS refuses to die in the smartphone era is because it's quick, simple and reliable. Uncomplicated. Why mess with that?
I have inadvertently sent about a dozen pictures of random squiggles to my partner by accident while experimenting with the new iMessage. I honestly cannot see any utility in these new features.

How exactly do Apple manage to balls it up every time ?
Do they just not give a crap?
I worked in IT for decades, and releasing updates into production was normally a serious business.
Things actually got tested.
Facking useless.
I find it particularly amazing because they know exactly what hardware and software is in use. It just seems like either laziness or a 'thatll do' approach to release management.Do they just not give a crap?

How many were affected? Was it an issue for the "professionally upset at anything" or a blip?
Apple seem to be suggesting it was a fault with the software in he first few hours it was available and have apologised. It does seem to have affected a lot of people. How many were affected? Was it an issue for the "professionally upset at anything" or a blip?
I got had but then I knew that to wait would be better to see the outcome of others, but sat at my computer so plugging in and rescuing the phone with iTunes was no real issue. I can understand that people desperate to upgrade would risk it without backups or a iTunes nearby with OTA. My only real issue was the speed of downloading and the net in general was dead slow last night. But people with so much work or life on the phone and not backed up, well, I would have waited or accept that technology in its many forms can make you have a bad day.

It really is common sense to wait for at least one point release before jumping in. When I had Apple devices, I lived by that rule!
It is a point release. 10.0.1 https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2016/sep/14...
An Apple spokesperson said: “We experienced a brief issue with the software update process, affecting a small number of users during the first hour of availability. The problem was quickly resolved and we apologise to those customers. Anyone who was affected should connect to iTunes to complete the update or contact AppleCare for help.”

Saw that but they also say it was a small number.... guess we will not get the figures?

There must have been a lot of data being downloaded yesterday evening - I ran a time machine backup just before 18:00, then downloaded the iOS update, Xcode update and all of the app updates. I then backed up my iPhone and ran another time machine update, which was 18GB!I got had but then I knew that to wait would be better to see the outcome of others, but sat at my computer so plugging in and rescuing the phone with iTunes was no real issue.
