This morning the notification popped up on my 6P, and I could've sworn it wanted to install Android 7.0 Nougat. Anyway, OTA update done.
Version on my phone now: 6.0.1

Nice article on what's new here:

Especially looking forward to PIP with video native in android, and side-by-side apps.

Edit: Linked to an English article now.

Yeah, received the OTA on the official release date in the last week of August. All good. But I had been running the beta since sometime last March or April. Small touches, but when you step back you see how quickly you have become accustomed to 'small' improvements e.g. my wife's phone (on Marshmallow) beeped last night and she asked me to read the message from her sister and reply to it. I swiped the notifications down, read the message, and then paused for a minute thinking 'how do I reply, where's the quick reply gone ?!' Lol It's the small things...

Enrol in the beta programme, you'll get a prompt for 7.0 straightaway. Download. Install. Unenroll from the beta programme. smile

Love it already, you can't copy everything, phone number off an image and the like. Split screen is great. Don't have to pause YouTube to look something up either.

Anybody else made the jump to 7.1.1?

Seems fairly stable to me.

Yes, seems stable enough although the battery life on my 6P is still not that great.

Also I've just rooted the thing and put Google Assistant on it for good measure laugh

Do some screenshots of how it looks on Nexus 6P?

I'm running Pixel launcher, tempted to install assistant but I'd need to install TWRP to do it.

Likewise here, the beta of 7.1 seems rock solid. Enjoying the app shortcuts available with a long tap - makes common actions yet quicker again.

What's the consequences of rooting a 6P to try Assistant? I'm running the Pixel launcher and have the assistant in Allo, but not convinced it's worth rooting or custom recoveries.

What's the concensus amongst those with a better understanding? Am I likely to see issues with some apps, or what are the cons these days?

If you root stuff like SkyGo, Barclays (probably other banks) won't work anymore.

Not much to see but here you go. I assume it's fully functional.

Don't think you actually need to root the phone, I tried using a root explorer at first to edit the build.prop but this didn't work presumably since the system was mounted read only. I edited the file in TWRP instead.

Just had a read of a few pieces on the TWRP site. Don't think it's worth the hassle for me personally - the whole raisin d'etre of Nexus devices for me is the OTA updates and also regular security updates. From what I see you've to do that manually after using TWRP.

Aye - TBH I was just curious to see what the Assistant is like - it seems alright but I wouldn't go the hassle of TWRP and/or rooting the phone just to try it out. I'd imagine Google would want to roll it out to other Nougat devices once there's been a decent volume of Pixel sales.
