I had the screen replaced on my old HTC M7 after I smashed it. 8 days later 3 of us watched it as the screen did exactly what yours did whilst on the side by the TV. The company who fixed the screen had it back and just sent me a refurbished handset.

I always thought that when they fitted the new screen they didn't do it quite right, so it was under pressure and just gave out. So yours could have been a dud from the factory, or had other issues.

Given the press at the moment, I;d be having the case off to see what the battery is like... Go in via the screen, it's gone now!

They said that if it was in a case - which it was - it wouldn't necessarily show any signs of body damage but the shock would be enough to shatter it. They also said that if it was a battery expanding issue that the screen would've cracked horizontally rather than totally shattered as they see that quite a lot (that's news to me).

And you can't have it, the rubbish was collected this morning :P

I know the reality is that I could've paid for the screen to be repaired and then sold it but, you know, deep-seated anger issues and all that.
Some places would have even bought it from you with the smashed up screen.
This, you could have sold it to a phone recycler for at least 100 quid, or even more on eBay rolleyes

Being a little pedantic, you should not have thrown it in the bin but recycled it properly by taking it to dump :-)
