Finding 0% offers on the Mavic now... that almost means I HAVE to buy one. Right?

How often to you find yourself reviewing/rewatching the footage? Do you record it in case of a "What if"? that miraculous save or that amazing jump etc etc....and if so do you keep all the non eventful footage?

It isn't a pisstake question...I am trying to justify the cost to myself....and possibly the otherhalf when she quizzes(grills) me on the reason!
see this is my dilemma, I do quite a lot of fun things- cycling, kayaking, skiing, climbing etc.... and I fecking love gadgets/toys.... but I just don't think I would actually bother/ use them that much.

for example- kayaking, in my boat twice a week, in winter if a rivers at a decent height we'll go blast down a decent river, but I don't think I'm really that fussed about watching any of my adventures back, never mind making a video that other people might want too.

same goes for skiing, do I need to see any footage of me skiing down a blue run with crap technique not going very fast or doing anything particularly awesome......

all that said- I still really want a drone/ action camera combo for that first time I use it and think its awesome.....

Mavic looks to be the better camera drone, hands down.

However, Karma has a lot more flexibility as an all-round system.

Seems to me that if you want a drone to film with, it has to be the Mavic. It's just incredible. But if you want to play around with action camera footage generally including some drone videography, the Karma offers a good package.

Depressingly, US prices don't include sales tax. So once you add on VAT to the US$ price the cost premium is only about £60.

I have it recording most of the time on descents and usually watch it, edit it down and then upload it to FB or something. I keep all the footage, storage is cheap.

I'm still torn between a Karma and a Mavic Pro... The DJI will no doubt fly better, but I've never really had cause to use the obstacle avoidance features of any drone as I'm pretty sensible when flying (only in open spaces and on calm days).

My Yunnec Typhoon H is now on eBay - that was a great drone and the redundancy is piece of mind that I'll miss, but I just fancy something smaller that can be taken away and bunged in a bag.

Hmmm...

That looks like a crazy hard to control beast!!!! Give me a drone any day.

Tempted to hang onto my Yuneec Typhoon H now they've added redundant radio control via a software update to go with the physical motors...! The latest 3.0 software update is quite significant it would seem.

Has anyone got a GoPro Karma yet in the UK?

Ive had my mavic for a little over a month now and just wow...what a piece of kit!
nice and portable - so much so I took it on holiday last week as hand luggage on the plane.
Flies great, especially in sports mode where you can get up to about 45mph. Collision avoidance works pretty well (i tested this by flying it toward my GF's head)
Just sold the Phantom 3 pro so hopefully this will scratch an itch until something newer and better comes along!

I have a PH3 Advanced and I am keen to know other than the portability what the Mavic offers, how much did you get for the PH3 - seems like they are worth a reasonable amount s/h mine is in A1 condition and has two batteries, but as said I struggle to see the benefit of the Mavic for the cost to change....

I sold my P3p with 3 batteries, windsurfers, carry case for £700. I reckon I paid around £1300 for all that at the time just over a year ago. The problem is the next best thing is always around the corner and the value of electronic items drops so fast. If you are happy with the results from the P3A and you dont have much difficulty transporting it around, it may be worth just keeping hold of it rather than getting the Mavic.
Like I said earlier, My main reason for upgrading was the portability and ease of set up of the mavic, it really is that good to be able to squeeze the complete set up into a carry case only around 10" long. I want to be able to take it with me wherever I travel and I found the case for the Phantom a bit of a PITA to lug around TBH.

Sorry, just seen that you wanted to know other benfits other than portabilty.

The Mavic has a new lightbridge system (not sure of the name) that will give you a flight range of around 7km as opposed to the 4 that the phantom has, there is a collision detection camera mounted at the front which works well.
some other features:
Quick release props (which stay attached when transporting the mavic)
27 minute flight time
sport mode - fast maneuovers
The TX has all of the flight information on the LCD which is handy in case the app crashes on your phone

new Flight modes:
Active track (draw a box around the target on screen and the mavic will follow and lock camera onto, really cool!
Terrain follow - will automatically ascend when flying uphill to maintain altitude
Tapfly - press on the screen where you want to go and it will fly there.

thanks for your comments, I don't travel much atm so happy with the PH3 and I think the abilities are very similar in all other aspects. wink

Shameless bump.

Who is still playing with their Mavic?

A friend has recently bought a Phantom 4.

We went out to play with it and i'm now instnatly in the oooh shiny new toy mind set.

But of course I want a Mavic.

I do some photography, and the portability is pretty cool to go with it.

Or is it a whim that'll sit in the cupboard after i've played with it twice.

I'm thinking toy!
I bought a Osmo and ive barely used it. Aspirations of becoming the next Casey are wildly over ambitious!

Don't get me wrong the footage is awesome....I just never find the time. I went to lego land and actually spent time charging the batteries for which I ended up with 9000 for some unknown reason....and then left it in the car....I had hoped to use it to capture more times with my daughter growing up, but it just isn't happening.

I've got an Inspire and a Phantom, and absolutely love it. I bought the phantom think it might be a phase, but I'm now constantly looking for excuses to go out with it.

Haven't got a Mavic, but would love one for the portability!

The Mavic Pro is amazing.

I have spent the last 30years of my life driving (piloting or whatever) subsea ROVs.

Water is apparently 1000 times more dense than air.

3 million dollar ROV systems have not got the stability and control of this featherweight drone.

Just amazing.

I've just collected shin new Mavic Pro from the Apple Store. Today.

Whilst everyone else in the store was collecting iPad and iPhones, I was the only one to be collecting a Mavic Pro, it. Drew quite a crowd! Even the genius guys wanted to know all about it!

It's currently doing a bunch of firmware updates,,before it's. Maiden flight!

Having received wife approval I am now in the market for a Mavic Pro. Has anyone found any deals?

Also, I really dont need one until May next year for an epic Germany photo tour trip - should I wait for a Mavic 2?
