Having received wife approval I am now in the market for a Mavic Pro. Has anyone found any deals?

Also, I really dont need one until May next year for an epic Germany photo tour trip - should I wait for a Mavic 2?
The Mavic Platinum was just announced this week. It isn't really Mavic 2 as such, it is the same but quieter in operation and has a slightly longer run time.

I would have thought that this might lead to some deals on the original model soon. You can add the props from the Platinum to the original Mavic to make it a bit quieter as well.

Been using mine now for a couple of months and it is an amazing bit of kit...so much so I have the drone bug.....so I have bought an Inspire1 as well. It is more than just a toy drone...it is nice and compact and can fit in a rucksack with ease, the flying time isnt as close to 27minutes as they will ahve you believe....personally I like to bring the drone back within plenty of time of the battery getting to empty but it still gives you ample time to do whatever your plan is to do with the drone.

I would suggest that you come up with a game plan though before taking off, even to the point of turning the thing on as that will give you much more time in the air doing what you need to do with it. Also go and fly and set yourself tasks to do, I tried to film a car the other day and just cocked it up big time...and I thought i was getting pretty good lol

Although you can use your phone, my suggestion is to invest in something standalone as I have received calls and emails and it is all a distraction. Ive ordered the CrystalSky monitor and mount for the mavic as flying in sunlight is a major pain in the a**e

Have fun and dont bother with the Platinum edition I dont think it is worth the additional value. I bought mine from Build Your Own Drone. No cheaper than DJI direct just wanted to use them.

Oh and I didnt go with the DJI care...didnt think it necessary to be fair and so far it hasnt let me down. I do recommend you watch all of the DJI tutorials though, I found those very useful....albeit a bit on the cheesy side!!

Enjoy smile

I've still not bought one, we're off to Scotland for 2 weeks next year touring the islands. I intend to buy something for that and will wait till nearer the time so that I can either buy a new model or pick up a used Mavic bargain.

picking up a bargain of a used Mavic is a good plan as there are many examples of these on eBay where they seemed like a good idea at the point of clicking buy on the DJI website! You will probably save a good couple of hundred pounds as there are way more on eBay than there are people buying them!

However just be mindful that the batteries only have a 6 month/ 200 charges time before you are supposed to replace them (following the DJI Guidelines) Yes they should last longer, but at £85 each that is quite a big expense to consider. Also you need to check the props for signs of damage and there should be a spare set (depending on the package they bought) this could be a sign of crashing especially if the spare set are missing!

The batteries are intelligent so will be able to tell you how many times they have been charged via the app, the app will also be able to tell you how many hours the unit has been flown for.

check that the gimble has a full range of motion, these are quite fragile and expensive to replace.

make sure you fly it before you buy so to make sure the sensors are working correctly and that it doesnt wander whilst hovering.

Costco have the Mavic Pro Fly More pack in stock for £1200 inc. VAT, and it's also available on Amazon for about the same price.

I keep looking at them but realistically I know it will be something that gets flown once or twice and then ends up on a shelf.

From what I've seen on YouTube, an RF locator is also a good idea - something like this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Loc8tor-Loc8torLite-Lite-...

I'm off to Boston early next month as the missus lives there, I'm tempted to buy a mavic pro fly more combo. That comes in around £979 from best buy but do some reason I'm hesitant to pull the trigger. I've got the money no problem but I still feel like it's a lot of cash for something I'm likely to break.

Does that include sales tax at the US end and I port taxes here?

Doesn't sound like enough of a saving to risk ducking UK tax, potentially warranty issues etc... I think you can get them here for £1100-£1300?

Yeah that includes sales taxes. I'm based in Norway and the fly more package here is £1400, so a rather large saving.

I love the Mavic! I have however recently bought the Phantom 4 Pro (for commercial work). I'm thinking the DJI Spark may be a purchase in the future...the Mavic is just so expensive.

I have had a Phantom FC40 for four years and it was time for a change. Collected a Mavic Air (Fly more Combo) this Saturday and OMG what a piece of kit. I get what a lot of people have said about being arsed to use it but my god this thing is so portable you can take it anywhere.
