Apple never sell older models other than refurbs. 3rd party retailers usually do, not sure what they'll do to the prices considering they're cheaper than the new ones.

Wow those prices! I'm stunned.
"UK pricing: £1449, for the 13in without Touch Bar, £1749 for the 13in, and £2349 for the 15in respectively. Basically, straight conversion from dollars, minus £50.

This isn’t Apple inflatingits international prices, either: a straight conversion from dollars to pounds, plus 20% VAT, results in much the same prices.

For reference, previous prices were £999 for the base 13in – an increase of £450 – and £1599 for the base 15in – an increase of £750.

That’ll be the Brexit effect, then."

At least we got our country back!!!

Worst bit is you can bet if things stabilise and the exchange rate goes back the prices will stay the same.

They have done and are still doing so. You can buy the old models in both 13 and 15 inch at newly increased prices.

Held off getting an Air at the weekend in anticipation of this event.

Not impressed at all.

I now have a quandary. I have an iMac at home and a MBP 13inch for when I'm out and about. Fancied the Air as it was lighter, better battery life etc for when I go and see clients. Now what? I cannot justify a new MBP to be honest. The Air is dead. The MacBook has a 12inch screen which I can't help but think is a little too small?

Anyone running a MacBook and is it any good??

People should not be just looking at the purchase price, the resale value later on is much better than any other make. Also they require less support, IBM of all companies has been slowly migrating to Macs over the last few years, interesting stuff here https://amp.businessinsider.com/an-ibm-it-guy-macs...

Then it's not an older model, it's a current model. Looks like they've gimped it a bit, no dGPU on the 15"

So they've lobbed in the bin all the stock they already had, have they? Or is it in fact older than the newly announced npt-yet-available model?

Stop being obtuse.

Except other manufacturers don't seem to feel the need to whack costs up to the same extent...feels a little opportunistic to me, quelle surprise.

I have never, ever, sold a used computer and never will. So resale values are an irrelevance to me and, I suspect, most people.

Note also that the current price start points are so high that the machines will need to retain around 50% of their value over 3-5yrs for this to be a "benefit" as you could simply chuck away the Windows based machines I'm looking at and still be no worse off!

I'm also fortunate enough to be relatively technically literate so don't really need support.

We'll see.

They'll be put on the refurb store, since a lot of them will have a dGPU, or other options they don't offer anymore. It's possible ones that are specs they now offer are still sold, but they might want to update the packaging.

I have a 2015 Macbook 12" and I love it (even more so given the new prices!) - screen is really nice. I paid £700 in the US pre-brexit in a Best Buy sale which now seems like a bargain! My stock of new Levi jeans I purchased at the same time must be appreciating in value all the time smile

What a load of rubbish.

Certainly won't be buying a new Mac now. Current one is fine, 3 years old, and still working well. No Magsafe and no HDMI, yet they kept the headphone jack. WTF?

I suspect this is a correction for currency and functionality.

I wonder what was the prior US $ spec/cost to compare.

No magsafe is disappointing but HDMI is still there, granted using an adaptor.
