Looks like the 27th will be the keynote according to various sites tonight.
Just seen that on the Recode website - looking a bit more likely perhaps that there will be something happening on the 27th.

I wouldn't be surprised if everything moves to USB-C, it's obvious that regular USB ports are on borrowed time.
I just wish everyone would agree on one style and then fking stick to it.

How do you mean? USB has been around for bloody ages, but it's fairly big and restrictive. USB-C is replacing it, but is backwards compatible.

It's hard work being a Mac fanboi at the moment - the entire computer range needs updating but it all feels a little bit irrelevant compared to the iPhone!
This is definitely annoying... I love Mac computers - they just 'make sense' to me but although I have an iPhone (5S - my first), which I bought in order to see how I liked handoff features back in 2014, I prefer Android phones. So for me I would prefer more emphasis on the computer hardware and less on the phones.

I mean why are they all physically different shapes and sizes? Why is the end that plugs into a digital camera or a printer square, but the end that plugs into a computer wider and flatter ... then iPhones have their own version again ... which has changed several times. Everyone should just agree on one physical shape and size and then stick to it, regardless of what you're plugging it into.

First there's this :

Secondly, there's the part of monetization. If you have a solid market position and a devout following, make your own connector and have everyone pay to use it.

Have to say that USB-C would tidy up my desk dramatically with one of these: https://eshop.macsales.com/shop/usb-c/owc/usb-c-do...

Goodbye USB hub, Macbook power adapter, ethernet dongle... And fewer cables to plug/unplug when docking.

I also think I'd probably welcome all USB-C. Dropping the SD card slot would be a bit of a shame.

I think I will stick to my 2013 Haswell rMBP if the new one doesn't have a SD card reader. Its incredibly handy.

This may be a silly question but from the leaks it looks like it has no hdmi and no dv port, only thunderbolt but I'm pretty sure my monitor which I bought a mere 6 months or so ago doesn't have thunderbolt so how would I go about connecting the Macbook to it?

You can buy an adapter with thunderbolt one end and vga or hdmi etc the other or you can buy a dock for neatness

What they really need to do is create some Universal USB standard.

EFA
See my XKCD comic above smile. Had something similar with my ultra thin Samsung. It had a Micro VGA (??) port or something, couldn't find any adaptor but theirs, at 40€ eek.

I was sure we were talking about USB-C? So USB C to thunderbolt (and the ability to charge would be nice).

Edit: just saw it was about something else. I'm still looking for a usb c to thunderbolt but for some reason I can't really find one?

I like the idea of USB-C, and I got an external USB-C monitor for my laptop, USB-C powered as well, great piece of kit, but dismissing all ports all of the sudden because of it might sound nice in theory but in practice it's a PITA.
I'm glad my current laptop still has an HDMI though, saves me a lot on adaptors.

Thunderbolt 3 natively goes over USB-C, so you don't need an adaptor.

If you have a USB-C dock you can connect, power, monitors, external drive, keyboard & mouse etc to your laptop with one cable.
