Thunderbolt 3 natively goes over USB-C, so you don't need an adaptor.

If you have a USB-C dock you can connect, power, monitors, external drive, keyboard & mouse etc to your laptop with one cable.
Ah, got it, thx! I've got a customer who has some cinema displays, was wondering if I could use them with my new laptop. I see now why I couldn't find an adapter getmecoat

I wonder if there will be an announcement of a new cinema display too? An external 5K display like the iMac that has all the ports but with just a single USB-C cable to connect/charge a macbook would be a nice setup.

There are some rumours that they'll be announcing a new 5K display too but this is Apple so who the hell knows.

Apart from religiously releasing a new iphone every year, they don't seem to have a clear strategy when it comes to the rest of their kit.

I would think so. Would think everything would be USB C now
Will be interesting to see if they include a headphone socket or put a lightening port in its place

I'd say a 5k Monitor with all the dock connections you'd need that connects via USB-C could be very probable. If they're wanting to fully get behind USB-C rather than Thunderbolt.

Quietly hoping for a Jet Black MBP, though seems very unlikely. Matt black MBP would work too. More likely I would've thought would be Space Grey, Gold, Rose Gold variants as per MacBook.

I was (and am) chomping at the bit to buy one of these, but at the same time buying the 1st generation of a significant revision is a concern...

Feels like Thunderbolt has only just come along.

IIRC it's an Intel tech isn't it? Maybe if they're moving away from it it's because there is some ARM based hardware in the pipeline.

I'd expect them to have the black, rather than space grey, as they have ditched than on the phones. Annoyingly I have got out of sync and my iPhone and MacBook no longer match.

I prefer a black face on the phone (or maybe around any screen), but there's still something I prefer about a shiny silver MacBook.

Or low take up means the few Thunderbolt peripherals have been at a price premium (even for Apple stuff).

Firewire, Thunderbolt - Apple is often the disruptor for faster connectivity and then a wider tech comes along that will drive real usage?

Intel developed Thunderbolt but Apple were the first to back it, and pushed it. It never really caught on though, and things are just too expensive. I bet the majority are just used as DisplayPorts.

I have a 2012 iMac and boot from an external SSD using my thunderbolt, using the internal HD for storage. Upside is I can swap the SSD in seconds vs deconstructing the iMac.

That's great, I've got loads of things attached through one USB3 port rather than TB as a decent hub costs a quarter of the price.
