I'm looking to buy a fully loaded 15" machine to last me a few years, so I'm expecting to get hammered. I hadn't even thought about Brexit and iPhone 7 price rises. frownfrownfrown

Just looked at the one I bought in late 2014, and that was £2,235 - so based on that I'll be "happy" if it's less than £2,600...

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's a good thing! I think it's one of those inevitable results of voting for Brexit, the pound going down was always going to happen and thus foreign companies like Apple were always going to put the prices up.
The pound was thought to be overvalued anyway. Brexit just got the ball rolling, but it would have happened at some point anyway.

I must have pretty much the same machine as you, but to make it even worse I got university discount which I couldn't get now..

Ask around... generally it just needs to be someone in higher education - student, work at a university, school, etc. The apple store aren't that bothered who pays. They are bothered about people reselling kit, but not those buying a few devices each year.

Don't you know anyone still at university?

I could probably get something, but they cut the discount rates this year and no longer give you free AppleCare, so it's not as good. I think I got 14% off!

Read some of the links above...iMac looking questionable.

Macs are usually ready to go from the announcement, but Apple seem to do things slightly different at present. So you'll find out on Thursday wink

Probably identical given that price was also including the HE discount (courtesy of the old HE links that no longer work). Sadly mine got stolen in early 2015 and I hadn't replaced it because I got suckered into the whole rumours site echo chamber that a new version was imminent....

What was the spec and what do you do with it to need that sort of spend...?

I spent £2,239.00 in late 2013 on a 13" one. Not cheap.

I was kind of hoping for a black one with a super narrow bezel. Also not entirely sure why I would want a "magic toolbar"

Other than that it's looking good though....

Context sensitive UI - you have it on the iPhone/iPad. This is a step toward merging the interfaces. F1-F12 is a bit of a relic?

It's quite nice to have physical keys that are easily hit for things like brightness and volume though, it'll be interesting to see how they're set up on the new toolbar-thing.

I hope they haven't made it super thin or even super light though, the battery life was one of the main reasons I bought my rMBP as I expect it to be at least the same on the new machine if not better. A 15" 'pro' machine doesn't need to be thinner or lighter than it is already (unless of course they can do that with no sacrifice in the function, then it's all good).

I'm interested to see it in use, I could see a few uses, but it does seem like another thing to go wrong, especially if the make it taptic.

Oh well I may be priced out of it anyway, I don't really want to spend more than £1500.

I wasn't sure about the butterfly keyboard when I first bought my MacBook 12" but now I think it's great - takes a bit of getting used to though.

I played around on a butterfly keyboard for a few minutes at the weekend as I thought it may end up on the pro... Definitely something that will take some getting used to but won't put me off.

Looking as expected so far...

The difference is that you're not normally looking at the keyboard because the keys don't shift around on you unexpectedly.

However, seeing as Mac keyboards haven't had sensible pound/hash and delete keys for a very long time, the loss of an entire row of keys isn't likely to be noticed.
