My current MBP circa 2011 has 16gb of RAM, what is the new one upgradable to? Anyone know?

Ha ha ha ha haaaaaaaaaaaa!

Just looked at the prices.

Specing up even the cut down one to the same as the Dell I'm considering sees the price over 2k!! That's at least 60% more expensive than the Dell.

The TouchID version is another couple of hundred.

You've lost the plot Apple.

OSX is nowhere near enough to keep me Apple based.

I think I'm going to stick with my current model, rather than fork out £2500+ just to get another dual core, 16GB, 1TB MBP like it's 2013 again.

Wow those prices! I'm stunned. Previous gen refurb starting to look an attractive option.

Do we assume they are out of the external display business now?

Well that's it. For the first time in 12 years I will be looking outside of apple for my computing needs. Have had a MacBook Pro since they were first released and its battery conveniently gave up on Friday last week.

The rumours of a new line stopped me replacing it straight away but how disappointed can you be. The price wouldn't be as much of a concern if it provide something genuinely groundbreaking but most of it was nice to have not need.

XPS looks like it is then. Sad in a way.

Make sure you're sitting down, because it goes all the way up to an eye watering... 16GB.

I know there is always endless apple bashing after these events. But this really was hugely disappointing. And I just can't believe the prices. It's like they they don't want to sell macs any more. Not to mention, no change to iMacs. Mac mini or Mac Pro.

I can't decide what to do.... bite the bullet and go for the base 15" for £2349 or a 15" 2015 with 2.5 processor upgrade for £1989.

I made the switch from Windows in 2011 and bought a 15" MBP Retinain 2011 and still use it daily today which cost me £1650. It's my only "PC" as such and it's great. I've been thinking of buying a newer model for ages and I've considered moving back to Windows as Win10 looks OK. Last Windows I used was Win7.

But now, yep I'll definitely be buying a new Win laptop. "17 top spec for £1-1.2k.

I'd do the same but I simply couldn't face going back to windows!
Plus I've invested time and money into software for mac and wouldn't want to rebuy it all.
Plus, I can't buy Logic Pro X for windows anyway

I've been wanting a 13" laptop to use when travelling for a while now so I've held off until these we're announced.

With those prices/specs I'm just going to try a Dell XPS 13 first with the QHD infinity edge display.

Serious question now boys. I havent had a windows PC since Vista and what made me run was the constant updates required and the horrendously bad virus software that slowed everything down. How much have things changed?
I have the original surface pro, an Asus laptop and a home built PC,a all have an i5 processor and either 4 or 8 GB ram and running windows 10 with no issues at all. I use Microsoft defender for av and it updates in the background. Windows 10 is great IMO and works really well with touch on the surface.

I knew I should have bought the top spec 15" a couple of weeks ago for £2k, what a joke.

I actually need the function keys as I use Windows in a VM to do development professionally and the function keys are crucial.

Waiting a couple of weeks has cost me £350!

I'm not sure the constant updates could be any worse than on the Mac of late. I'm constantly getting nagged about updates being available.

I've also had an increasing number of times when I need to press and hold the power button, or force quit apps.

The latest upgrades to the OS interface aren't for me either really...they seem to make things less intuitive to use. iMovie's a case in point, though I admit not core OS - it's almost single handedly what made me switch to Mac in the first place, and now it's a pain in the arse. I downloaded a demo of Adobe Premier Elements and it's what iMovie used to be (only better through the fullness of time). Only hassle is it's Adobe so bound to plague me with update requests too!

Have mailed my contact at Dell...just waiting on a deal.

I use Win 8.1 at home and Win 7 at uni and both are fine, really. They haven't given me any particular troubles in day to day use, they're fast and not that hard to find your way around. Many friends use Win 10 and most of them have no complaints anymore, there were some driver issues at the start though.

I still love OSX for things like the mail client so my iMac and MacBook Pro will be hanging around for a while yet but I doubt I'll replace them with Apple items once they're old.

Anyone thinking of switching you can get Windows 10 Pro licence keys for £25, might be worth a download and install on your Mac before taking the full plunge.
