I was wondering if anyone can help me, at this point I'd take recommendations at alternative software.

I often used the 'cast to' option when right clicking on a media file, my telly would show up, I'd click it and then the media would start playing on the telly.

I've recently been away for a couple of weeks and this feature is now not functioning correctly. When right clicking the telly will show up in the list, and it will start to think about playing, but then will state 'device is not responding' I can still stream from other devices to the television.

I have looked at numerous guides and other issues regarding this and can't figure out whats happened. When I was away I connected to a Samsung television which seemed to download some software to play, which I cant track down, I thought that may have had an effect, but I can't see why.

I downloaded plex but couldn't get my head around how to view all my media from my laptop on it. It just seemed empty.

Many thanks,

Bert

Massive, basic, guess... has streaming been switched off in Media Player? I'm sure that can happen following updates.

Open Media Player, Stream [dropdown], Turn on media streaming
Or, if you prefer...
Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Network and Sharing Center\Media streaming options

Yeah I'd come across that already. After restarting the laptop a few times it has been turning itself off a couple of times. I don't know if it keeps connecting to an unknown wireless network which may be tripping it out. But even when I turn it on it doesn't have much luck.

It sounds like the laptop has been attached to a different network whilst you were away.
Try using the Windows Homegroup troubleshooter it sorted me out. - When I changed broadband provider all my kit except the main PC stayed on the original homegroup.

Yeah I was. I didn't think that I had a homegroup set up, but will give that a go and see what happens.

Thank you. thumbup
