I have read that there could be up to 300 unaccompanied "children" in the loosest sense of the word, destined for England.

How can this ever be allowed?

Why so damn many?

What about if, or when their uncles, aunt's, fathers, mother's all pitch up, demanding reuniting with "their" long lost child.

Clusterfukc on epic proportion.

That's one in every 233,333 people you meet assuming that the population is 70m.

I know two families taking in children. Good for them.

I struggled to get my head around your comments Hugo, until I looked at your location, do you find the OP's post 'offensive' or is it a case of the more the merrier ?

you really struggled with the concept?

a rich western country, 6th biggest economy is it? taking in 300 refugee children from Syria is so abhorrent to you?
even if you disagree with it, you really can't comprehend that anyone would think it's not that bad?

What??? yikes
They're bringing their unnecessary apostrophes as well?
As if we didn't have enough on here already.... frown

ETA: I wonder if the OP has ever thought how he would would feel if his home had been bombed and his parents and family killed? Would he try to escape the war-torn environment he found himself in through no fault of his own?

Whether they are Children, youth or adults - these are PEOPLE caught up in a horrific blood bath, people who have likely lost friends, parents, siblings and family. Many of these people will never see their loved ones again. It is right and proper that we offer support to those most in need. 300 people who now have an opportunity at normality and living to a good age and who in time will contribute to the country as much / little as any other random sample of 300 people will.

If they were unaccompanied children say 4,5,6 year olds would the OP be any more compassionate or is he for real? Those "children" we all saw we're obviously not the age we should be taking they should be at home fighting to save their country. But orphaned infants should be welcomed with open arms.

They come over here, with their surprising language skills and funny food, unable to use even the most basic lavatorial devices and flooding our extraordinarily well decorated west London town houses. Send them back I say.

Based on the 'children' we've seen so far, are you 100% sure they're going to be minors?

I think people are totally fed up with the mass immigration we've experienced since Blair, now we're having even more.

If it wasn't for the fact so many people have come here already, taking in some children wouldn't be an issue.

And your language stinks.

I have been told that the following is from a headteacher in Manchester, but I can't speak for its veracity:

"In Greater Manchester in order to prevent Primary Headteachers from applying the normal rules and policies in an arguably selfish (sensibly protective) manner to refuse new entries to their school rolls and so burdening less "sharky" (switched on) Heads with an unfair number of new pupils a meeting of Gtr 'Mcr Heads as well as the most senior 'bods in the Local Education Authority is held on a twice yearly basis.

Last year in the meeting before the end of the Summer Term it was expected that some additional 120 Year 6 (Top Juniors) children would require school places in the coming 6 months, the majority being "International New Arrivals" - the current term for those who speak no English.

At this years meeting held before the end of the Summer Term Heads were told that an additional 1,000 places would have to be found for additional Year Six pupils, the majority were, yes, you've got it, "International New Arrivals".

An additional 1000 pupils: so, as a minimum, that's 33 teachers to be recruited at a basic salary of £30,000 given that you want a really good, experienced switched on Teacher to head up the year group that produces the SATS results that the Government and parents judge a school by means about another 100,000 has to be found. Add in costs for Interpreters, Special Needs Support Staff, Buildings, Furniture. Add in the as yet incalculable number of younger siblings from these families and you end up with a very, very, big number that has to be found and, as yet, Central Government has been a tad reticent about the ultimate source of this .

Bear in mind that this is a snapshot of what is happening in only one Local Education Authority Area.".

Worrying stuff, if true.

Much more money, space and resources in Germany and mainland Europe. Why not keep them there?
