147GTA, I know what you mean. It's quite a task of trying to find a decent handset.

MG ( plus others), thank you. I'll definitely look into the 1+3, although I may hold out a little bit longer for the 1+3T.

Steve, could you please confirm that the Honor 8 is dual active? I think its the same as the Mate series but I can't confirm if they are dual active too.

The larger the screen, the better.

According to someone on the XDA Developers site it is dual active as he is able to call one sim from the other which presumably means they are both active at the same time rather than one being on standby.

Thank you Steve. I'll give XDA more of a read to distinguish which phone is best for me. It's been a while since I've been on that site anyway.

My understanding is that most current flagship phones (with the notable exception of Apple) and some non-flagships now offer dual-active SIM either as standard or variants (some only in certain regions). Dual-standby SIM is not really the current flavour of the month anymore.

My Note 7 (RIP) and Note 5 both offer dual SIM as standard specification where I am (in fact, the single SIM variants are simply not available), and there is an option in the settings to enable dual active (which allows both SIMs to receive calls simultaneously). It however only allows data to come through one SIM at a time, restricting the other to 2G comms, but this suits me just fine.

Thank you DL.

I see an issue with my current setup if only 2G reception is received on one of the SIMs. I have my personal number via GiffGaff, who use O2 with which I use for calls and data. My 2nd SIM is with Three, who don't have a 2G frequency but I need to be able to make calls on, also sometimes using it for data (will be everyday). Sometimes I may not have the reception from the O2 SIM, so having the other slot active would allow for a "seamless" connection.

It is getting worse now as well with all the newer phones now doing dual sim with the second sim card sharing a slot with a memory card so you can have one or the other but not both, unless you start cutting and gluing sim cards and memory cards together. I still have a dual sim Samsung S5 with the official 3500mAH battery because of this, the S6 had the rubbish battery and didn't have the waterproof feature and the S7 has the sim card/memory card issue so can't see the point upgrading.

I gave up trying to find a dual active phone a while ago as I seemed to be wasting my time, would rather compromise on that than other stuff like size, battery, waterproofness and screen quality.

I have an S7 dual SIM and adding 2 Sims and a memory card is pretty simple. Some acetone dissolved off the chip from my main sim and I then used couple sided tape to stick it to the reverse of the micro SD.

There is an option to keep both Sims active but there is an issue when receiving a call on my 2g sim (you must select one for data and not both) I'm unable to use data so I actually think the dual active may just be call forwarding. I suspect it does all the op requires though.

It is call forwarding, I have it on my S5 too. The best way to check is to call one number with the other on the phone. Your way will work too though, if you make/receive a call on one sim yet can't access data with the other, it shows that the sim is going offline. On a true dual active phone you will also be able to receive text messages from the other sim while on a call.
