My Nexus 6P has started the well-documented 'turning off at 30%' shenanigans which is annoying. I can't have 'battery anxiety' or not know when it's going to turn off...!

The 3T looks like a good bit of kit and I may be able to pick up the midnight black one. Is everyone else who bought one still as enamoured with it?

Still like mine, although the battery life isn't quite as good as it was at 3 months old. Could be that I'm using it more or have a power hungry app. AccuBattery reckons 89% battery health but it hasn't dipped from that in a fortnight.

FWIW my wife's Nexus 6P is dieing at 15%. Annoying as it's only just a year old and battery health is still low 70s. I'll never buy another Nexus (or Pixel) product.

As a smartphone, I can't fault the 'smart' bit of the 6P although the phone side of things is a bit st. I'm getting very fed up with constant complaints of poor call quality and coupled with the new shutdown issue is prompting me to change. I'm actually only planning to run it it until the end of the year as I'm still under contract with EE and I get a useful 30% F&F discount so it makes sense to get a new phone through them when the time comes.

If the OP3T is that good I may even just stick with that and sell the new handset after the 6-month window passes (EE get a bit knocky about you selling a contract handset before 6 months are up...).

I like the look of the Midnight Black 3T, I might try and get one of those if i can. Thanks for the feedback, very helpful. smile

Edit: how do you find the charging time on the phone if you're not using the Dash Charger? I have a load of USB C chargers for my 6P - one of the reviews says charging is slow on non-Dash cables; have you found that to be the case?

I believe both the OP3 and OP3T charge at a maximum of around 1.5A/5V when not using the Dash charger; not horribly slow, but not especially fast either.

For reference, the Dash charger is capable of a maximum of 4A/5V and you need to use both a Dash charger and the Dash cable to enable Dash charging.

Ok, looks like the 6P is 3A/5V on its fast charge? I'm guessing the battery technology differs which means that on Dash the OP3T will charge at its fastest but by the sounds of it on any other USB-C (such as the ones from my Nexus) it'll be slower than the Nexus is?

Yeah, pretty much. You've got OP3/T non-Dash at 7.5w, Nexus 6P Quick Charge at 15w and then OP3/T Dash at 20w.

Dash chargers are quite expensive, you're looking at something like £25-30 for a charger and cable and they're pretty much only sold by OnePlus themselves unless you want to try your luck on eBay etc and risk getting a dodgy fake. That said, the whole Dash charging system is very impressive, OP's claims of 60% in 30 mins definitely hold up in the real world, I get 62-63% in 30 mins with the phone turned on and about 65% with it turned off.

As an aside, I've noticed that my OP3, even when charging at full Dash speed, doesn't get hot. I don't know how OP managed it, but the phone stays remarkably cool. My old Galaxy Note 2, which only had a ~2A/5V charger, got considerably warmer when it was charging.

I haven't had any WiFi or BT issues. I am on the beta though.

I've not tried any of those things specifically but not noticed any issues with WiFi or BT. I have used a few different wifi networks without an issue, and my dashcam has a wifi hotspot and I can select that or my home one no problem. I stream BT music to an old Kenwood car stereo and also to a Parrot MKi-9200 without any problems. Can't remember if the metadata comes through.

Re charging, the Dash charge is highly impressive although I tend to use it overnight which renders it a bit pointless. I usually take a booster pack with me rather than a charger so it's not that important to me. Normal USB-C charge times seem OK and not noticeably slower than my Nexus 5.

I've taken the plunge:

I added a second Dash charger with 1.5m cable and a Sandstone case with screen protector. Should be here Thursday!

Nice one, and still hundreds cheaper than some other phones on the market that really don't offer much more! biglaugh

The cable you get with the spare charger is really nice quality, it's flat like Tagliatelle as opposed to the one in the box with the phone which is round like Spaghetti (though still perfectly good). Excuse the terrible food based comparisons, but I didn't realise from the pictures on OP's website.

indeed, I'm actually rather excited about it. Looks like enough stock Android to keep me happy with enough useful additional features which probably should already be baked into Android from the off..!

One thing I can't see - on my order, it doesn't specify VAT. I'm not going to get hit for that on top when it ships am I? I'd have expected it to be an 'inc VAT' price on the total.

That's pretty much my thoughts on OxygenOS too, it looks a lot like stock Android, but has some genuinely useful tweaks. OP are good with the updates too, the phone is already on Android 7.1.1 and has the March 2017 security patch. The current OxygenOS version is 4.1.3. There are also beta builds available if you want to be even more cutting edge, but I prefer stability on a device I have to use every day.

Yeah, VAT is included in the price. Both my OP3, which I bought last June, and my sister's OP3T, which she bought in January, shipped from Poland via DHL. I assume OP have found that it's better to have one European distribution centre in a cheaper country and ship all across Europe from there.

What's weird is the site says it's now sold out in my region yet it let me order one. I hope it really is on its way...

Anyone moved from an OP One to the 3T ? I'm fed up with poor 3G reception and suspect it's the phone. Two and a half years old so I guess time to change anyway. Or wait for the OP5 ?

I read about the OP5, the rumours are a good bump in spec to SD835. I need a new phone now though so bit the bullet. Some comments are that OP's handsets are creeping up in price so it's possible the OP5 might be a good chunk dearer too.

I'm hoping mine being the 'limited' edition and the 128gb capacity will make it more appealing when I come to sell.

Considering that the 3T is still one of the fastest phones on the market and that the OP5 will likely cost more; all flagship OP devices have cost more than their predecessor (I'd guess at £450 for the OP5, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was £500), I'd say go for the 3T now whilst you know the price, know what you're getting spec wise and know it's a good, well reviewed phone.

Not strictly true. You are correct that it is the final all-inclusive price, which is all that matters for a private individual. However, if you run your own VAT-registered business and are buying the phone as a company asset, then it's worth noting that you can't reclaim the VAT as there is none. It is an international non-VAT purchase.

Well, you learn something new every day, cheers. smile

To whoever I was originally replying, sorry for being somewhat misleading; I'd never even heard of an international non-VAT purchase.
