Afternoon all,

I might be a bit late to the party with these, so apologies for the noob questions.

I've just moved in to a flat and soon noticed how poor the sound was from my TV. Few of my friends have suggested getting one of these.

Are any of the ones sub-£100 worth it? I don't really think I need a sub. I live above someone so the constant bass will probably annoy them...

The ones that have Bluetooth, are you able to pair your phone with them for Spotify etc?

I know there's loads about online about these, but I do prefer to get the PH touch when it comes to buying stuff.. biggrin

Cheers
Dan

The first one we tried cost about £150, think it was a Samsung. It was rubbish. Decided to spend a bit more and picked up a Yamaha for about £550. Really good, and we use it all the time.

Well....................
If it could be a soundbase rather than a soundbar then this Goodmans is particularly great VFM

I have one and it really does do a great job.
I got mine for £80 sainsburys

Bought a Magnat Sounddeck 400BTX over a year ago. Really impressed, the thing booms!
BT means it can play music from any phone as well.

Thing is, it's a sound plate instead of a soundbar, so big difference there.

Had a fairly cheap Samsung bar plus sub for four years. Think it was £250 or £300. For the price, it's brilliant. Decent sound for movies, good enough surround effect, bluetooth for streaming music.

The sub is kind of key to the sound, though. The few times it hasnt fired up, it's very noticeable.

When we finally moved into our current house, I took advantage of some deals during Black Friday last year and bought a Sonos sound bar and sub. Really impressed with the system (and obviously how you can expand them round the house) however I am sure others out there will point out there is better hardware but for me they are a great bit of kit!

Sonos is pretty good, but tbh way overpriced for what they deliver.

I have a Canton soundbase. It is excellent and easily outperforms the soundbars I tried in a similar price range (£150-£250).

That looks great VFM... I think we have a winner.

Thanks for all the replies chaps, but Yorkshire mode has kicked in. Tar!

I'm coming at this from the otherside, I skipped sound bars and went straight to a full surround sound system.

However, my satelite speakers are on spindley stands, which aren't so compatible with my son who is just starting to crawl. I was thinking of replacing the surround sound set up with a sound bar for a few years, so this thread has come at the right time.

Would I be able to plug my current sub into a soundbar?

I'm currently deciding whether or not to buy two further Sonos Play 1's and go for a 5.1 setup. Anyone have any experience of this vs. just the soundbar / sub?

Cutting to the chase it just works no flashing lights / bit tacky remote unit/ great sound / I connected via an optical ccable but have to be homnest and cant remember if that was supplied with it or not as its the sort of stuff I keep in.
Instruction book is just a foldout but it is simply so simple to use. Bass is impressive as I assume it fires downwards and best of all it will sit under most TV's and you juts get used to it being there.

I'm about to pull the trigger on it too but any chance you know how much it weighs? The Amazon page just gives everything as 10 but 10kg seems a lot and it definitely isn't 10cm by 10cm by 10cm. I've found the dimensions but the critical part for me is the mass and I can't find that.

I've just ordered one so can tell you what it weighs tomorrow if you'd like? I think 10kg sounds about right though? They're pretty big.

If it's not too much then that would be great thanks.

Yeah no bother! Out of interest, why is the weight a concern?

I don't work in the UK and can't get things like this so easily, but getting stuff sent out from the UK is doable. Unfortunately it will cost me £16 per KG to have it delivered or I can get someone to bring it over but asking someone to bring over 10kg might be pushing my luck a little.

Here's a link to the Goodmans page where you can download the manual although it doesn't have the weight in it. There's also a little drawing that says it's 715 x 200 x 425 packed & weighs 9.08kg in the box:

http://www.goodmans.co.uk/support/base-sound-syste...

That's a fair sized box.

Or the Heos soundbar and sub for 300 quid.
